  • Vikings vs Colts - GMG In The Raw LIVE!
Good morning Horners! Yesterday your Minnesota Vikings went to play the Indianapolis Colts and it was frustrating to say the least. Good Morning Gjallarhorn went LIVE with post game reaction. Flipmazzi, Drew and Dave broke down some aspects of it, vented like most of you, and looked forward to what needed to be done to start to fix this disappointment. Coaching decisions or lack of effective preparation from Mike Zimmer and Gary Kubiak came into focus, but that wasn’t all, especially when an exactly .500 quarterback, Kirk Cousins, generates a 15.9 quarterback rating. Coach Zimmer talked about lack of identity and that applies to both sides of the ball. Frustrating right?
The Vikings again were lopsided on the time of possession with the defense being on the field for 38.25 minutes. That is a slight improvement over week 1, but still extremely troubling. The offense can’t seem to move the ball consistently except for the first drive and garbage time. That’s a huge problem after expectation of this veteran unit was high, and contract extensions doled out to Cousins and Dalvin Cook. The offensive line still looks to be awful, and no scheming by Kubiak and Mike Dennison has fixed that. Frustrating right?
It looks like Vikings fans are in for a a long season. Where do you see the first win?

  • Vikings vs Colts GMG Redemption in Week 2
Good morning Horners! Vikings vs Colts is upon us. Is this a redemption week coming off of a terrible loss to the Green Bay Packers at US Bank Stadium? Can the team right the ship and get back to winning? Is the combination of no offseason due to the virus, only having all the new faces and just 4 players on defense back playing in the same spots as last year [Harrison Smith, Anthony Harris, Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks], or is that Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman have done the best they could but over time it just wasn’t good enough? These are just some of the questions rolling through the minds of fans. Do you have more?
The team travels to Indianapolis to play the Colts in an almost empty stadium. There will be approximately 2,500 fans per reports, but in Lucas Oil Stadium that normally houses 67,000, will that make any sort of difference? In stadium Vikings fans were definitely missed last week. Will the Colts defensive line cause problems for Dru Samia [suspected starter in place of Pat Elflein]? Will Riley Reiff and Brian O’Neill deny sacks? Can Dalvin Cook improve on his 48 yard performance. Heck, can the Vikings win the time of possession? Sure, Zimmer seems to have Phillip Rivers’ number, but he was getting the ball out at a 2.27 second clip last week. Aaron Rodgers did slightly faster at 2.25 seconds and we all know what headaches that caused. Will Rivers gift the young Vikings secondary, now less Cameron Danztler, with an interception or two. The time for easing in first round draft pick Jeff Gladney and his meniscus is over. He, Mike Hughes and Holton Hill must meet the challenge or it will be a long afternoon.
One person that can change at least part of the picture is if Gary Kubiak fires up some productive play calling. Again, let’s get more than just 18 minutes of offense please! Kirk Cousins can spread the ball around and get more targets involved, and those guys can produce. Adam Thielen will be his favorite of course, but expect him to be double covered most of the season. Make them pay for that. Take it to the Colts secondary and come out with a win. 1-1 is a whole lot better than 0-2.

  • Vikings vs Packers - GMG In The Raw LIVE!
Good morning Horners! Vikings versus Packers for week 1 has been played and Flipmazzi, Drew and Dave from Good Morning Gjallarhorn went live after the game in GMG In The Raw! Like the game yesterday, it was a little raw. The Vikings looked like they were playing a preseason game against the Packers. Unfortunately, that team from Wisconsin played like the game actually counted… which it did. The final score was 43-34 in the loss, but as they say, “it wasn’t that close.”
The defense set records yesterday; most points scored against in the Mike Zimmer era, most points given up at home for the same time period, Aaron Rodgers not being sacked for the first time in 10 years by the Vikes, and finally that the defense was on the field longer than any game in franchise history. Yikes! That all hurts doesn’t it. Could it get any worse?
Play from Kirk Cousins, Dalvin Cook, the wide receivers from Adam Thielen, Bisi Johnson, Justin Jefferson, TE Irv Smith Jr., and even Tajae Sharpe was talked about. How do you think the new-look O-line fare? Was the D-line the pressure? The young corners? Let us know. Who was the best Vikings player on the day? Was it Eric Kendricks or punter Britton Colquitt? LOL. Watch or listen and let us know with this slightly censored version of the live show.

  • Vikings vs Packers Week 1 - GMG Pregame Show
Good morning Horners! Vikings versus Packers, week 1, and this is your GMG pregame show where we look at the upcoming game. That team from Wisconsin [TTFW] comes down to play in U.S. Bank stadium, an empty stadium with pumped in fan noise. Will it make a difference? Probably not due to the fact that reports are saying it will be at a low 70 to 90 dB, but it isn't all about the noise, it is about how your Minnesota Vikings will fare against their hated division rival, the Green Bay Packers.
We start out by learning that Danielle Hunter was placed on IR. This makes the signing of Yannick Ngakoue all the more important. Hunter will be on IR for at least 3 weeks for a Courtney Cronin reported neck injury,, a “tweak” as Mike Zimmer called it. We all hope it’s just that. That means Ifeadi Odenigbo will get the start at left defensive end. He should be playing with a chip on his shoulder and attacking the replacement tackle for TTFW. It came out in the injury reports that Billy Turner is doubtful, and most likely out with a knee injury. The Vikings on the other hand, other than hand, are relatively healthy [with the exception of Hunter] going into the game.
Keys to the game will be how well the run defense holds up was Shamar Stephen and Jaleel Johnson. How the offense of line for the Vikings will do in their new configuration. Has Dakota Dozier actually increased his strength? Will Pat Elflein salvage his career and play well at right guard? Who will backup those two safeties? Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris are the only ones on the active 53, but we know they could bring someone like Nate Meadors up and suit him up for the game with the new rules. Will the Vikes generate pressure against Aaron Rodgers, and how will they do it? Will we see more blitz packages including Anthony Barr? Will the young cornerbacks Like Mike Hughes, Holton Hill, Jeff Gladney, and Cameron Dantzler make a mark against Rodgers? How do you think Kirk Cousins will distribute the ball amongst his receivers like Adam Thielen, Bisi Johnson, Justin Jefferson and Irv Smith Jr., and how all Gary Kubiak called the game? Will we see a bigger run/pass split, or are we looking at a 50/50 game? These are all questions we have to wait until Sunday to find out, but what do you think will happen?
