  • Skoldiers - 053 - Cardinal Sins
Minnesota Vikings beat the Arizona Cardinals 20-9, but first a quick recap around the league:
Andrew Luck retires at 29, and the colts allow him to keep bonus money. Lamar Miller goes down for the season with an ACL injury. Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers preseason game reduced to 80-yard field because of safety concerns.
The Vikings somehow unsuccessfully challenged a fumble (stadium angle was perfect). Off game for the offense in general, flow seemed to lack. Olabisi Johnson is looking like the WR3 of the roster, and a lock on the 53. Pass protection continued to struggle, but maybe not all the line's fault. Mike Boone continues to string nice games together, what does it mean for the final 53? Kyle Sloter has another nice outing, is he QB2? Xavier Rhodes looked poor in the snaps he saw, is it overreacting to be concerned? Jayron Kearse and Mackenzie Alexander have several splash plays... again. Mike Hughes still waiting in the wings, does he get PUPed? What the heck is going on with the kicking? Saturday revealed little in the way of clarity on the situation.

  • Skoldiers - 052 - NFC Preview
NFC East - Where do the Cowboys stand with Zeke Elliott / Dak Prescott situations? Can Carson Wentz stay healthy, as the backup QB situation for the Philadelphia Eagles is a mess. The New York Giants lost several key pieces in Landon Collins, Odell Beckham Jr. Olivier Vernon, can Danial Jones and Saquon Barkley carry the team? Washington's quarterback room is a mess and a half, but Adrian Peterson is in the best shape of his life.
NFC West - Arizona Cardinals got their guy in Kylar Murray, what kind of magic can they produce? The Los Angeles Rams rotated some players, losing Lamarcus Joyner & Ndamukong Suh, and adding Eric Weddle & Clay Matthews, is it enough to keep pace? The Seattle Seahawks lose Frank Clark, but gain Ziggy Ansah, and add DK Metcalf, are they a division contender? Will the San Francisco 49ers stay healthy enough, and get a big enough boost with Dee Ford to fight in a tough NFC West?
NFC South - Can the Atlanta Falcons stay health and return to superbowl contender form? Are the Carolina Panthers better on the offensive line without the Kalil brothers? The New Orleans Saints have no glaring roster holes, and seemed to only get better. Are they the superbowl favorites? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a new coach, Ndamukong Suh, and some fresh young talent. How close are they to being competitive again?
NFC North - The Chicago Bears defense is unlikely to see the same success as 2018, can it do enough to maintain their division title? The Detroit Lions reloaded with talent at many levels, and Matt Stafford is still playing well. Are they in for a surprise season? The Green Bay Packers lost several pieces, and have had a few recent injuries. Will a new headcoach be able to overcome these obstacles? The Minnesota Vikings return a defense largely intact and add weaponry to the offense. Will the tick-tock cycle under zimmer prove true with a bounce back year into the post-season?

Is this the year the New England Patriots start their decline with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady getting older?
AFC North - Baltimore Ravens reloaded on all fronts, will it be enough to retain the division crown? The Cincinnati Bengals did little to change the roster, will a new coaching staff be enough to spark? The Cleveland Browns continue to stack young talent, will talent alone be enough to overcome a lack of experience? Do a Antonio Brown and Le'veon Bell -less Steelers have what it takes to return to the playoffs?
AFC South - Houston Texans signed Matt Kalil to be their left tackle, will he get Deshaun Watson killed? Indianapolis Colts have solid units on both sides of the ball, with young emerging talent, are they AFC front-runners? Can the Jacksonville Jaguars return to form after a year removed from the AFC Championship Game? Tennessee Titans did little to add significant talent, where are they headed?
AFC West - The Denver Broncos are in re-build mode, what does Drew Lock do with a un-willing mentor of Joe Flacco? Can the Kansas City Chiefs repeat their offensive genius of 2018 behind Patrick Mahomes? Can the Chargers overcome the loss of Derwin James, and figure out the Melvin Gordon holdout in time? Will Antonio Brown ever find a Oakland Raiders helmet to wear?

  • Vikings vs Seahawks – GMG In The Raw!
Good morning Horners! We have the Vikings versus Seahawks game reaction and recap on this episode of “GMG In The Raw.” You can watch and listen to how Ted Glover, Drew Bunting, and Dave Stefano react immediately following the game. Dave even took copious notes blowing Drew's mind away in the process. Kirk Cousins was showing some mobility, a good thing. We like that! We wanted to see a better running game, better run defense and see fewer wide receivers being open against that defense. These things were still there and we wondered could it be because the Minnesota Vikings were running their base, or bland defense, stuck in a simple zone scheme, could it be because Linval Joseph and Shamar Stephen weren’t playing, or just that it's the preseason and head coach Mike Zimmer doesn't want to show anything? Drew noted that when the second team defense comes in, they show more fire and that the level of excitement goes up in the stadium. “Their energy jumps.” Ifeadi Odenigbo did an outstanding job all night. Cameron Smith blitzed but whiffed on the sack. The scariest point of the evening came on the offense when Alexander Mattison had his leg bent in a very awkward position. All of us thought with Vikings fan dread, that he was going to be injured on that play, but he got back up and continue to play just fine. We've noted how he seems to get stronger as the game goes on. Oh, and what a night Boone had! We felt he secured the RB3 spot with that performance, and Zimmer liked his special teams play even more. Kyle Sloter had a very good game. We discussed why he should relieve Kirk Cousins as the QB2 in this week's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Both Dave and Drew were adamant that he earned that look, but Ted wasn't as convinced. He still thinks that Sean Mannion did nothing to lose his QB2 status. Yes, he threw the pick 6, but he drove down the field and scored on the next series. We are all to use to the team laying down after something as adverse as of miss-ran route that results in a pick and causing a huge swing in the scoring. After seeing the game Dave doesn’t think Sloter’s status has to do with the games. It has to do with practices and what support he brings to the rest of the QBs in the support role. He may be too inexperienced to see and help, at least in Zimmer’s mind. You'll have to listen to catch the rest of the GMG impressions on players like Kaare Vedvik, Dan Bailey, Matt Wile, Brandon Zylstra, and Dru Samia. Lastly, the guys think Dave should die his beard purple for week one. Should he? Like, subscribe, and rate us on your favorite podcast aggregator. • Skoldiers - 050 - Seahawk Down
Viking Standouts - Including Mike Boone with 100 all-purpose yards, Jayron Kearse with several splash plays, Kyle Sloter looking legit, Brandon Zylstra having a bounce back game, Treadwell being showcased (for a trade) and Irv Smith checking the boxes on a solid outing.
Kaare attempts all kicks, Holton Hill is ejected, Dalvin still held back. Elflein has a poor outing, while the offense seemed to move the ball decently.
Defensive miscues need to be fixed, but still holding well against powerful Seahawks offense.
