  • GMG ep 62 - Vikings Kicking Situation
Good morning Horners! The Vikings kicking situation has caused heartburn for many fans. GMG’s Dave and Drew talk about it. Going into the game against the Atlanta Falcons the kicker competition is settled for at least now.
Kare Vedvik is gone and that experiment cost a future 5th round pick. Of course he was picked up by the New York Jets and promptly makes a 69 yarder. Oy! Dan Bailey has secured his second season with the Vikings after a season only hitting 75% of his field goal attempts. Daniel Carlson was fired after the second game at Green Bay in 2018 and moved to the Oakland Raiders where he has hit virtually all of his kicks.
There is something under the Mike Zimmer time as head coach that has affected the kickers. Theories fly about how they are dealt with and their strength of their psyches. Kickers in the Zimmer era include: Dan Bailey, Daniel Carlson, Kai Forbath, and Blair Walsh. Punters include: Matt Wile, Ryan Quigley, and Jeff Locke. Also the Vedvik experiment at both positions. In 5 full seasons, that is a lot players at a positions that usually change that often. What are your theories on it?

  • GMG ep 61 — Vikings vs Falcons – It Starts!
Good morning Horners! Game day is here for the Vikings vs Falcons and the guys at Good Morning Gjallarhorn has you covered in only the way GMG can. Which of course is through humor, opinions and analysis… And as Ted would say, not always good, but always fun.
We start the your dive into the game with reports of Stefon Diggs having missed a practice and list with a hamstring injury. Hopefully it is nothing and he’s over it [there is word that he will play]. We would hate to see something like drag on. If either Diggsy or Adam Thielen are out for any extended periods of time, the opposing defenses will blanket the healthy WR and probably to the detriment of the offense. That lead to the question of who will be the WR3? Will Olabisi Johnson get the job, Chad Beebe, or newcomer Josh Doctson? If Bisi grabs it, can he hold on? We’ll find out plenty during the game.
Speaking of injuries, Dalvin Cook looks to be 100% healthy. Hopefully he stays that way especially with the emphasis by Mike Zimmer that he wants to run the ball more. If the offensive lines can open up some running room for him, it will be a good day and should help take the pressure off of Kirk Cousins. The Falcons are hoping for the same for Devante Freeman. If the vaunted Zimmer defense has problems against the run, it will be advantageous for Matt Ryan and Julio Jones to open things up when they are not worried about a run defense. That leads into the pass rush having to make up the difference. Hopefully [and it is game 1, so hope is high], the combination and rotation employed by Andre Patterson does the trick. This will be our first real opportunity to compare this year’s Shamar Stephen to last season’s Sheldon Richardson.
The best quote of the show was a comment by Drew after Ted thought that we should win. He said, “the old pessimistic bastard is coming around for once.” Ted replied, “Hit me up Sunday night.” Come on Ted. let the hope be with you!
We did some game predictions including Ted with Jeanna Thomas over at the Falcoholic. Guesses with good outcomes from Alexander Mattison, Kyle Rudolph and Danielle Hunter. So what are your predictions? We want to hear in the comments. Then enjoy Dave as he summoned his inner John Madden. It was fun. Go Vikings! Let’s win the the game! SKOL!   Like, subscribe, and rate us on your favorite podcast aggregator. Then shout SKOL!    As always, enjoy the watch and listen!

  • FMF 207 | Peak Performers
The Vikings 2019 53-man roster was born from competition. The coaches gave youngsters a real chance to make this team, and if no one stepped up, no one made the cut. That's why Minnesota went thin at WR before picking up Josh Doctson. That's why the front office cut both Kaare Vedvik and Matt Wile in favor of Britton Colquitt.
On the podcast I talk about all the competition, and the results. I discuss what we can expect from Josh Doctson this year and the latest chapter in the Vikings Specialist Saga.
Then we dive into the PLUS matchups. Three Star Vikings have the opportunity to start the 2019 season with a bang.
Adam Thielen has a series of winnable matchups against cornerbacks who are still relatively raw: Desmond Trufant, Jaire Alexander, Gareon Conley and Kyle Fuller. Can he replicate that 8-game streak where he gained 100 yards? Can he climb even further up our loaded history of star wide receivers?
Dalvin Cook at 100% could be the main difference between 2018 and 2019. He glimpsed just a little in the preseason and is set to soar behind a new offensive line and new offensive scheme. If blocking and play calling get him in space, watch out! De'Vondre Campbell, Blake Martinez, Tahir Whitehead and Danny Trevathan struggle to tackle elusive backs like Cook.
Harrison Smith still swarms every inch of the turf. After a down 2018 in coverage, it'll be interesting to see how his role adjusts as the centerpiece of Mike Zimmer defense. A return to the all-world form we've seen from Smith during his career would completely change the narrative on the "aging" purple defense. Austin Hooper, Jimmy Graham, Darren Waller and Trey Burton are all manageable tight ends. Expect Harrison to erase them and lead the Zim Reapers.
So look for Adam Thielen, Dalvin Cook and Harrison Smith to pull our team to victory.  Let's get this ride started now! Skol Vikes.

  • Skoldiers - 056 - Cleaning up the Dirty Birds - Falcons Preview
Vikings v, Falcons history - Vikings lead series 19-11, last home game for the Vikings was in 2014 at TCF bank stadium, Mike Zimmer is undefeated vs the Falcons as a head coach, the last two meetings of this team, the Vikings have surrendered no more than 10 points in either game.
Breaking down the Falcons - Healthy after a disappointing 2018 campaign riddled with injuries. S Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen back in action, with passrushers Grady Jarret, Vic Beasley, and Takk McKinley looking to get after the QB. Atlanta, similar to Minnesota, has a rebuilt OL with a few rookies, that the Vikings may look to exploit.
Vikings Outlook - The Vikings have added several offensive weapons of their own, and a truly healthy Dalvin Cook week 1 is looking to make a big impact. Zimmer's defense remains largely intact from previous meetings, looking for a third outing holding Atlanta to 10 or less points. The wildcard is a revamped OL from Minnesota, can they hold up and open up running lanes?

The Minnesota Vikings look healthy. So far so good as we head into the fourth preseason game on Thursday and find out who's going to survive roster cuts on Friday.
Flipmazzi goes further, Looking all the way to week 4. Detailing which Vikings have the most challenging matchups during the first quarter of the 2019 NFL Season. Minnesota plays versus Atlanta, at Green Bay, versus Oakland and at Chicago to start the year.
Those teams feature formidable defensive fronts to challenge Garrett Bradbury. He'll go against Grady Jarrett, Kenny Clark, Maurice Hurst and Akiem Hicks.
The purple's opponents can cover the top too. Keanu Neal, Adrian Amos, Karl Joseph and Eddie Jackson will make an impact. Will Kyle Rudolph factor into the first four games?
Linval Joseph silently moved through the offseason and preseason. Lets hope he starts to make some noise in September. Alex Mack, Corey Linsley, Rodney Hudson and Cody Whitehair shut down most defensive tackles.
Finally the best matchups are WR vs CB and we have great ones to start the year. Xavier Rhodes goes against Julio Jones, Davante Adams, Antonio Brown and Karl Joseph. Some might be worried but X has closed Rhodes on them before.
