Viva Betty: An Ugly Betty Rewatch

Get your tissues out (and if you're Mark, sunglasses on) for the emotional and sensational Season 1 finale, East Side Story. Betty finally fights for Henry after what feels like years, Daniel and Alexis total a really nice car, Claire inspires a new spin-off idea, and we get not one but two (!) musical numbers from our multi-talented cast. It's a rollercoaster leading to a cliffhanger, with dazzling performances and fabulous looks all around. VIVA BETTY!

Things start off extra strong this week with a call from Mark’s mom Lynn, for a quick discussion of wedding looks and adapting to Hollywood. Then, the Suarez's fly first class to Mexico for S1E22 A Tree Grows in Guadalajara - an episode full of stars, flipped expectations, and a review of Hilda’s resume.

We’re back with the Godfather of Ugly Betty, director and producer Victor Nelli. He talks about working just about every job in television from production assistant to director, earning the comedy in a scene, being a safe space for the cast - and he even scores an invite to Mark’s wedding!

Today we're revisiting our time with Betty herself, the one and only America Ferrera. From the sushi restaurant debacle that started it all to the bittersweet final days on set, Betty's iconic glasses to her lesser-known extensions, fake laughter to real tears, the trio share cherished memories and lasting legacies of the show. Next week we’re back with an all-new episode as Mark and Ana sit down with director Victor Nelli Jr. to revisit some of his favorite moments behind the camera before diving into S1E22 “A Tree Grows in Guadalajara."

Mark and Ana are on one today as they recap S1E21 Secretaries’ Day (AKA Administrative Professional’s Day). Daniel is a mess, Betty needs a hobby, and Claire is drinking toilet wine - plus they let loose about Bradford, finance bros, and even Lindsay Lohan.

Ana and Mark are back for another banger, S1E20 Petra-Gate. Betty’s still mad at everyone and Mark and Ana are still kind of mad at her too, Santos does the bare minimum and Ignacio isn’t having it (even though Hilda absolutely is), Daniel almost writes himself into the Epstein Files, and Ana has something to say about a certain little blue pill.

For once in their lives, Mark and Ana are not Team Betty! Her codependency and judgement have gone too far (but at least her hair looks good). Plus, Mark and Ana share their travel guide to Prague, their fear of feet fish, and the story behind the rumored-but-never-made Ugly Betty musical episode.

Although many tears were shed while watching today's emotional episode, Mark and Ana pull it together to bring you all their thoughts and feelings on S1E18 Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Our Queen Judith Light brings all of her soap opera antics, Ana rages against the proliferation of camisoles under jackets, and the wonderful Patti LuPone stuns as the terrible Mrs. Weiner. Plus, Mark reads a special message from Michael Urie.

This week, Ana and Mark dive into S1E17 Icing on the Cake, where Betty's world is rocked by a simple shoulder touch, Daniel gets blackmailed, and Constance enters her Mariah era. This one is packed full of incredible guest stars (Jesse Tyler Ferguson! Lucy Liu!), iconic lines from drunk Claire Meade, and of course, plenty of practical dental hygiene tips.

Ana and Mark unpack an episode that is truly packed - with guest stars (Lucy Liu! Jerry O'Connell! Jayma Mays!), with decent wigs (for once!), and with the many faces of Becki Newton. They discuss reinventing yourself, why children shouldn't sing and dance, and how to get Fergie to perform at your wedding.
