  • “3 Ideas That Can Change” Your Life Review

Going over Mark Manson’s “3 Ideas That Can Change Your Life” PDF with Co-Host Heather Bauer. This is a good one.

“3 Ideas That Can Change” Your Life Review

    by Mark Manson

Check the full PDF out on GoodReads here you can also get it by getting his Email Newsletter here

All changes are based in ideas. Ideas give us new perspectives and from those new perspectives we’re able to change our behaviors.

In this small report, I’ve put together three ideas that have influenced my life and which I believe can influence yours.

    Idea #1: The Two Minds
Idea #2: How to 80/20 Your Life
Idea #3: Believe Not What’s True, But What’s Helpful

I didn’t come up with these ideas myself. If you look around hard enough, you’ll see them pop up in all sorts of places, from business, to NLP, to generic Self Help, to various forms of therapy.

This is just my take on them and some of the ways I’ve applied them. I hope you get something out of them.

Progress requires priorities & Dealing With Energy Vampires

You’re Trying to Do Too Much

Progress requires priorities. We need to tackle projects one at a time — not try to juggle them all at once.

Those who focus the most often end up with a great variety of accomplishments. Actually realizing the possibilities inherent in your life is only possible by subjecting yourself to hard constraints. Above all, recognize when trying to do too much generally results in nothing being done at all.

Variety in Focus, Possibilities in Constraints

A Genius Way to Handle ‘Energy Vampires’

Energy vampires exist and many of them don’t mind the light. They invade our inboxes. They call our phones. They knock on our doors. If you’ve left your house more than once, the odds are high you have you’ve already got a few bloodsuckers in your life.

Rather than avoiding them or confronting them — give them work to do instead.

DandapaniLife is a manifestation of where you direct your energy. Water the weeds…or water the flowers? Water the negative…or water the positive? Energy does not discriminate. Right now, you are a sum total of where you have been investing your energy in life.

For example, the next time someone asks to pick your brain and you don’t have the desire or time, considering saying —

“Here’s a good book on X subject. After reading it, send me an email with seven of your biggest learnings and once you’re done, we’ll go from there.”

In short, instead of giving away your time, energy, and expertise, you put the potential energy vampire to work.

  • Ichigo Ichie & Being a better listener

The Japanese concept of Ichigo Ichie can be super helpful for us to learn to live in the moment and pull the most out of life. It can also help us become better listeners.

    What Is Ichigo Ichie?

    Article Link >

10 principles that sum up this Japanese philosophy:

    Don’t postpone special moments.
Live as if this were going to happen only once in your life.
Do something you’ve never done before.
    Practice seated meditation
Apply mindfulness to your five senses.
    Notice coincidences.
    Make every gathering a party.
If you don’t like what there is, make something different.
Be a hunter of special moments.

How to Be Mindfully Present With a Japanese Concept of Living the Moment
Why live in the past when it cannot be undone. Why live in the future when it’s undetermined. Live in the present, so you can be in harmony.

    By Nam Nguyen

Treat every moment as if it were the last

Doing crazy things because “You Only Live Once” is all negativity and irresponsibility. When you only live a moment once, you need to make it worth living, not throw it through the window. If one day you look in the mirror and know that it would be your last day, would you still dress for your 9-to-5 job?

Would you continue to chase material values if you knew you are living your last day on Earth?

Would you continue to have a dispute with your family if one of them were leaving you?

Would you continue to waste time and energy if what you have done so far were to become a legacy?

5 Habits of Extremely Good Listeners

    Article Link >

    By Nick Wignall

Training yourself to be a better listener is the best way to drastically improve the quality of your relationships, from your spouse and children to bosses or coworkers.

    Stop giving advice
    Ask open-ended questions
    Reflect back what you’re hearing
    Validate their emotions
    Validate your own emotions
