Washed Up Walkons

Anthony is from Plano, Texas, settling in there after relocating during his youth due to Hurricane Katrina. Kluv and Gair talk about reconnecting after nearly a decade, balancing fitness with family life, and competing in a HYROX relay in Houston with Drape, Tevaun, and a friend, where they beat a team including Christian Kirksey and Anthony Hitchens and plan to race again in November in Dallas. Gair describes his training approach (F45 HYROX simulations, running 10–15 miles per week, and researching online) and mentions tearing his quad in December. He recounts his path from New Orleans to Dallas after Hurricane Katrina, choosing Iowa over Arizona and Stanford based on relationships, adjusting to college speed and the safety playbook, and earning early special teams action. They discuss NIL’s pros and cons, especially transfers weakening long-term alumni networks, and Garrett’s entrepreneurship certificate, including his Track Slides invention and pitching to Daymond John.

In an OG Wash Up Walk Ons episode, the crew riffs on kids’ movies and parenting, then dives into injury and recovery talk, including worsening ankle pain, post-surgery issues, and how shoulder vs. lower-body rehab affects daily life. Drake discusses lingering shoulder damage, workouts as everything hurts, and weighing a move—possibly to Austin—while the group jokes about longevity, head injuries, and CTE. They shift to UFC topics, including betting against fighters who miss weight, weight-cut recovery methods, and a White House fight card with concerns about outdoor conditions. The conversation returns to Iowa football with reactions to the “Iowa Hard Knocks” All Access episodes, hype around WR Tony Diaz, questions about defensive experience and the D-line, quarterback chatter, and naming the best route technicians from their era.

In this episode we cover a variety of current event topics surrounding Iowa. We discuss how easy sports betting has become, Tyler tells a parenting story about forcefully getting Kinley ready for daycare, then feeling conflicted after she later apologized. The hosts check Iowa’s 2026 Big Ten title odds on FanDuel (Iowa eighth at +4500, with a big drop to ninth) and preview Iowa football’s highly produced All-Access spring episodes, including hype around WR Tony Diaz and QB Hecklinski, plus comparisons to past Iowa receivers. They touch on Ben McCollum’s contract extension and salary jump from Northwest Missouri State, save McCaffrey-related drama for Patreon, and briefly debate Big Ten media volume and the new conference additions’ fit.

In this episode with J we talk NIL, NFL Draft, joke about watching the Avalanche during recordings, and swap relatable dad-life stories before diving into ultra-competitive U7 flag football, including a 12–0 two-year run, team cuts, and a playbook full of reverses and trick plays. Sirles joins to discuss his agency One West Sports, the NFL draft weekend, why offensive linemen surged in round one, and how agent “packages” for training, housing, transportation, stipends, and marketing advances can financially make or break an agency. The group debates early recruiting and NIL’s ripple effects, roster and eligibility rules, the decline of on-campus draft prep, Iowa’s NFL longevity reputation, Nebraska’s outlook and schedule, and the Nebraska–Iowa rivalry game timing, and a whole lot more.

Max prepped at Urbandale High School, and was self proclaimed 'trash' at sports. We catch up with him just 1 week after being drafted by the Miami Dolphins. He recounts his journey from being an undersized, uncoordinated high school freshman who got benched by his dad to becoming an Iowa defensive lineman and getting drafted by the Dolphins. He describes quitting other sports to focus on gaining weight, battling injuries, learning Iowa’s fundamentals and disciplined defensive philosophy, and developing his own pass-rush “chess game” inspired by players like Maxx Crosby and Aidan Hutchinson, including the spin move that helped build his confidence. Luellin shares the stress of the Senior Bowl/combine interview grind, uncertainty about draft rounds, and the moment his name was called, plus favorite plays like his Nebraska strip sack. He also discusses NIL/transfer outreach, extreme calorie strategies (including notorious shakes), and his upcoming Dolphins rookie minicamp as Miami shifts to a 4-3.

On this episode we welcome former Iowa offensive lineman Nick DeJong. Nick recounts earning early playing time during a turbulent period for the Hawkeyes’ offensive line, including being undersized, battling injuries, and feeling dread and anxiety facing elite defenders like Aidan Hutchinson. The group swaps stories about brutal Iowa practices, conditioning, and extreme weigh-in tactics, plus outside criticism on social media. DeYoung reflects on leadership changes after Tyler Linderbaum, pride in teammates reaching the NFL, and his post-football life in medical sales, fitness coaching, and losing about 70 pounds.
