Why do you have to repeat something over and over until you find yourself yelling?
Why are they tuning us out?
Although we need to be mindful of early signs of true developmental issues - MOST kids have LEARNED to not listen ... and the truth is, we kind-of trained them to tune us out.
Yep - that's right. You read that correctly.
In today's episode I share 5 simple steps to get your child to listen better ... it's on us, though.
Parenting can be a complicated journey, and that's why Talking Toddlers focuses on new moms, new parents & grandparents - gain perspective, step back, find clarity, and be open to trying a new twist here and there.
By adjusting our style of communication, we can shape their listening.
Consider the WHY ... and then you can better understand most of these challenging behaviors / habits are typical, normal, healthy growing events - and if we, the parents in charge, stay open to learning-on-the-job; if we open our hearts & minds to what it's like to be 18 months, 24 months, 36 months... even 5 years old???
We have to stop ourselves from thinking & feeling like an adult ... and think like a child who is working hard every. single. day.
If this resonates with you, please go back and listen to Episode #13 What Parenting Style Are You?
