In recent years, athletes like Naomi Osaka and Simone Biles set an example by advocating for their mental health and putting themselves ahead of their sport. Fans look to them for inspiration when it comes to showing up more enthusiastically in their own lives. Part of that is acknowledging that humans are still learning how to deal with the unique stresses, anxieties, and pressures of life.
For Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re in conversation with licensed marriage and family therapist Nina Westbrook, LMFT, and Angela Charlton, PhD, to explore the unique challenges that athletes face when it comes to maintaining their mental health and how the workshop and tools they’ve created help competitive athletes move away from prioritizing performance only and to creating lives where they can thrive both on and off the court.
HOST: Taylor Camille, Director of Podcasts at Well+Good
GUESTS:
Nina Westbrook, LMFT, you can keep up with Nina on social here and learn more about Bene by Nena here
Dr. Angela Charlton, you can find her on social here and find more information on her website here
