With government data on the job market for November still a couple of weeks away, a pair of private reports show pink slips are flying faster while job offers are slowing down. U.S. employers shed 9,000 jobs in November, according to a job market report by Revelio Labs, an analytics company that tracks job gains and losses using data from online professional profiles. That was better than the 15,500 lost in October, but it was the fifth month out of the last seven that job growth has been in the red. Another report from consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas showed employers announced 71,321 job cuts in November, up from 57,727 at the same time last year. However, it is down from the surge of 153,074 in October. The official job market report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics for October was canceled, and the November report, previously scheduled to be released today, was delayed until December 16th.

1. The case against Luigi Mangione continues for a fourth day of a pre-trial hearing in New York. A key bit of evidence introduced is bodycam footage of his arrest in Pennsylvania. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to murder charges. His lawyers are trying to get key evidence thrown out. The defense questioned why police touched Mangione's backpack without a warrant.

2. The nation's capital hosts the draw for the 2026 World Cup today, determining the groups, matchups and venues for next summer's tournament in North America. The United States men's national team has already been placed in Group D as a host and will learn its three opponents in the draw, a high-profile affair taking place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. President Donald Trump is in attendance and was handed the inaugural “FIFA Peace Prize”, an award that was announced weeks after the president was not named the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

3. With a hefty 72-billion-dollar price tag, Netflix announces plans to acquire one of the most prominent movie studios in the world. Netflix sees this acquisition to cement long-term control over content, reducing dependence on licensing from third-party studios. The move potentially transforms Netflix from a “streaming-first original studio” into a full-fledged Hollywood production & distribution powerhouse, capable of theatrical releases, streaming, and large-scale content production all under one roof. The transaction could be completed within 12 to 18 months, according to initial projections.

The torch for the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics was formally handed to Italian organizers on Thursday in the all-marble stadium in Athens where the first modern Olympics were held nearly 130 years ago. The flame will now begin a 63-day relay from Athens to Milan for the February 6th opening ceremony. The torch will pass through 60 cities along its 12,000 km journey. Stops include: the ascent to Punta Gnifetti on Monte Rosa, a visit to the Marmore Falls, the magic of the Amalfi Coast illuminated by the torchbearers, and a passage along the Grand Canal in Venice. 10,001 torch bearers are expected to be involved.

Doc Rivers does not believe it’s an Achilles issue. The injury was initially described as a calf strain. The injury came hours after reports surfaced suggesting Giannis is frustrated with the team's direction, and conversations with the Bucks front office on his future in Milwaukee, led by Giannis' agent, are happening.

2. Australia is about to become the first country in the world to implement a ban on social media for children, but the move is already raising questions about how that law will be enforced. Starting next Wednesday, kids under sixteen in Australia will have their social media accounts deactivated on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat. Australia's government doesn't specify how platforms should enforce the measure. But age verification can be done through various methods, from having people upload pictures of their government IDs, to using face or voice recognition technology to estimate how old someone is. Those companies could be fined up to 33-million-dollars if there are major or repeated violations of the law.

3. Luigi Mangione is back in court this morning on the one-year anniversary of his alleged assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The hearing has the potential to sideline what prosecutors say is some of the strongest evidence of Mangione’s guilt. Defense lawyers are trying to bar prosecutors from using key evidence against him, including the alleged murder weapon and writings that prosectors say amount to a confession. During the first two days of the hearing earlier this week, prosectors revealed body camera footage of Mangione's arrest and called the Pennsylvania Police Officer who arrested him as a witness.
