1. META, the parent company of Facebook, is pledging a billion dollars to build a data center in Beaver Dam. The project is expected to create 100 operational jobs and support a thousand construction jobs. This is slated to be a 700-thousand-square-foot campus that will support Meta's artificial intelligence initiatives. The Beaver Dam data project would mark Meta's 30th data center. It's set to open in 2027. Meta says as part of its commitment to supporting the community it's donating 15 million dollars to Alliant Energy's Hometown Care Energy Fund which helps cover home energy costs for local families in need. Meta is also partnering with Ducks unlimited to revitalize 570 acres of wetlands and prairie surrounding the Beaver Dam data center.

2. All those text messages you’re getting about mysterious toll-road charges, cybersecurity experts say they know who's behind them. It is not a specific technical model, but rather a professionalized criminal enterprise with a clear division of labor. Data Brokers supply lists of potential victims and their contact information to the rest of the operation. Spammers are responsible for the mass distribution of the fraudulent text messages to the target lists. Theft/Cash-out Groups work to coordinate the exploitation of the stolen credentials and financial data.

3. The famed U.S. Mint in Philadelphia is set to strike its last circulating penny today. Some banks have started rationing supplies of pennies, a somewhat paradoxical result of the effort to address what many see as a glut of the coins.

1. The vote is coming! The House is expected to vote tonight on a Senate-passed funding bill that would end the government shutdown. The bill funds all of the federal government through January 30th and select portions of it through the end of September. Those to be fully funded include the Department of Veterans Affairs, military construction projects, the Department of Agriculture, the SNAP food assistance program it runs, and importantly to those on Capitol Hill, the offices of members of Congress. That means, if there is another shutdown at the end of January, Congressional aides will keep getting paid. The longest government shutdown in history now in Day 43.

2. It's deadline day! Today is the final day for Wisconsinites affected by historic August flooding to apply for FEMA's Individual Assistance program. Homeowners and renters may be eligible for individual aid even though a request for additional federal funding was denied. Eligibility for FEMA assistance requires that the damaged property was a primary residence and that needs are not covered by insurance. You can check your eligibility for assistance and apply at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling the FEMA Helpline.

3. There's another chance to see the Northern Lights tonight! People across a wide section of the country will have the rare chance to see the Northern Lights again tonight. Normally you don't see the Northern Lights in the city, but there were some people who caught them in Milwaukee last night.
