Addiction is one of the most stigmatized diseases in the world, and it is time that we talk about it. 47% of kids in the U.S. have used a drug by the time they graduate high school. If we are not willing to start the conversation, we are letting our children fall through the cracks. Tiffany was a bright and ambitious teenager who turned to drugs to deal with her anxiety, and it destroyed her life. She lied, stole, and hurt those closest to her. She was eventually able to turn her life around, and get back on track, but not everyone gets so lucky. We should use Tiffany's story to learn how we can help and support our loved ones, and possibly even prevent these kinds of spirals outright. Tiffany now advocates for those impacted by addiction, helping to remind those who are also on the road to recovery that they are not alone. It takes a village, truly, and it all starts with having these tough conversations.
