Why is it so hard to get rid of things we don't even use?
Professional organizer and dClutterfly founder Tracy McCubbin joins me to talk about the psychology behind clutter — and why our attachment to our belongings often has very little to do with the objects themselves.
Tracy grew up as the daughter of a hoarder before eventually building a career helping people understand their relationships with their possessions. We talk about the difference between clutter and hoarding, ADHD and organization, sentimental belongings, inherited possessions, shopping for your "fantasy self," consumerism, and why buying more storage containers probably isn't going to solve the problem.
And after this conversation, you may look at that box you've been keeping "just in case" a little differently.
What's something you've been holding onto for years even though you know you probably don't need it?
