August 19, 2024Houndsmen, Fur Markets and Trappers
Release Date: 06-12-23

The relationship between Houndsmen and trappers is unique in a way that makes us very closely related. We have a deep respect and understanding of the same wildlife species, we share certain romantic view of our lifestyles and we share the hatred from the animal rights fanatics that want to shut us down.
On this episode of the Houndsman XP Podcast, host, Chris Powell, talks with life long trapper Charlie Maschek and his son in law Justin Jett. Charlie is also the owner of Hoosier Trapper Supply, one of the countries oldest and largest trapping and outdoor trap supply businesses. Charlie has been a licensed fur buyer and buying agent for the old Hundson Bay Company.
Charlie, Justin and Chris discuss the fur market, what has happened to it and where it is headed. They talk about the glory days of the 20th century fur boom and the characters who participated. They tell old stories and predict the future for trappers and Houndsmen.
Most Houndsmen need trapping supplies at one time or another. Check out Hoosier Trapper Supply at:

August 13, 2024Falconry Chronicles Episode 127: Harrison Dalby
The series of episodes inspired by the use of dachshunds in falconry that were recorded in New Jersey last year are almost concluded, with Harrison Dalby being one of the last from the Maryland/NJ area yet to be released. Since this recording took place, Harrison has had a full season under his belt with his goshawk and dachshund, and he has also added a lurcher to the team recently as well. In this conversation, he discusses falconry from a newer and younger falconer's perspective, what it's been like having his own business from an early age and how that has also affected his falconry, and how his mindset has pushed his personal goals higher over time. Thanks again to Casey Everett (now of the Sporting Chance podcast) for helping with getting everyone together for this series!
Special thanks to the organizations and businesses who've kindly helped support the podcast!

August 06, 2024Falconry Chronicles Episode 126: Lance Christensen
This was a more recently recorded episode, one of which that I'm very excited to bring to you all! While navigating a very busy work and travel schedule the whole month of July, thanks to the partial collaborative help of Ian Anderson, I found myself making the 11 hour trek to meet up with Lance Christensen and others to talk shop! I had heard a lot about Lance from mutual friends and other falconers who've gotten birds from him, but I was very much looking forward to going over some of the science behind breeding, discussing the reasoning and rationale behind the preference of parent-reared goshawks, and as always, Lance's beginnings in falconry, and other topics. Thanks again to Lance for taking the time out of his busy weekend trying to organize bird distribution logistics to have this conversation!
Special thanks to the organizations and businesses who've kindly helped support the podcast!

August 05, 2024Government Overreach...Again
Have you heard of the organization CDC? Of course you have. They turned our world upside down in 2021 with their over reaction to Chinese Virus.
Well, they are at it again and this time it effects our hunting dogs.
Todd Adkins, Vice President of Legal Affairs at the Sportsmen’s Alliance is here to talk about a new regulation that will impact the importation of dogs into the U.S. He will also lay out what the Sportsmen’s Alliance has done is planning to do to combat this unreasonable over reach.
If you plan to go across the border with your hounds to hunt, if you are importing terriers from Europe, if you are buying a beagle puppy from Canada, you need to hear this.
