Xtreme Performance Outdoor Network

If we want to continue our tradition and way of life in the hound world, we are going to have to come together. On this episode, Heath talks with James Hudson from the Hounds Tales Podcast, who is from central Virginia. They talk about breaking barriers, representing Houndsmen and as the Hounds Tales Podcast says shining a good light on all things hounds. Don’t worry there’s plenty of dog talk mixed in here. Join us on the Journey as we take this trip together.

This episode's guest features another falconer from Canada, Martin Geleynse. Martin is another falconer who's been at it for a very long time, and during that time, he's sure stayed busy! During his years in falconry, he's worked a lot to get falconry regulations approved in Ontario, and he's also currently serving as president of the North American Falconers Association. It was nice getting another perspective on what it's like to juggle these responsibilities along with falconry and life's other responsibilities, so you'll want to hear what he has to say!

Tanner Herr, Ed Barnes and Cody Jenkins hunt the Rockin’ 4D Tournament with Clay Mindemann, Luke and Ty.  It was an exhausting three day ordeal hunting in central Oklahoma.  Despite getting away from the mountains of Northeast Oklahoma and going where it is relatively flat we still ended up in some rough hills wearing out our boot leather.  We caught some good hogs but nothing big enough to put us over the edge and into the winners circle. On the drive home we recorded a run down of the hunt and ideas for future hog hunts.

Topics discussed:

• Logistics of hunting tournaments
• New terrain
• Hog/catfish/coon contest
• Footlong coneys
• Post tournament pay per view wrastling

Those who are knowledgeable in the history of falconry are aware that there are few falconers left who were around during the early formative years of falconry's foundation in the United States. There are even fewer left who can say that they had a chance to learn from some of those falconers instrumental in forming those foundations. Thankfully, some of those falconers still around from that era are willing to share what their experiences were like, and the guest for this episode, Ken Felix, happens to be one of those generous individuals! Joining the podcast remotely due to obvious logistical challenges, Ken was gracious enough to talk about those early years, some of his challenges getting into falconry, his motivations to become a falconer, and other great topics! It's a true privilege to be able to share conversations like these, and I can only hope I get to do another follow up episode with Ken in person. Special thanks also goes to Seth Roy for helping to make this episode happen. Have fun!

Dries van Coller is a Professional Hunter (PH), owns Dries van Coller Safaris, the former president of Professional Hunters Association South Africa (PHASA) and a veteran tracker and Dog Man.

Dog Man probably doesn’t even describe him accurately. He’s full blown ate up with hunting dogs. With roots tracing back to germany, dries has become a student of European hunting dog history and culture and he has turned that energy into a complete safari experience for clients in South Africa.

Dries joins host Chris Powell for this in depth discussion about hunting traditions from Europe to South Africa. They discuss how he uses his Bavarian Mountain Hounds and Jagdterriers in concert to hunt and track the most dangerous game in the world.

There were three Bills introduced in this legislative session in Va. Heath and a familiar guest, Sean Clarkson from the American Bear Foundation, go over each bill and what it says. Sean goes over what it takes to make or break a bill. The two discuss what this means to hound hunters across the state.

In this episode, we revisit the world of dachshunds with Paul and Phil Eliya, who also make up the first brother falconry duo to appear on the podcast. These two have contributed back quite a bit to the world of dachshunds and falconry as well, and they started off their falconry journey as apprentices to Teddy Moritz, so they had a great guide through the beginning of their time in the sport. They both offer a lot of great insight in this episode, and were a lot of fun to get to know and talk with. Have fun listening to another great jaunt into the world of these small hunting hounds!
