September 12, 2025Grace in the Chase: Anchored in Friendship: Jerry Wayne Spurlock’s Journey from Coon Hunting to Bass Fishing
Welcome to today's episode of Grace in the Chase, where we have the pleasure of hosting Jerry Wayne Spurlock. Once a passionate coon hunter, Jerry has now channeled that same fervor into bass fishing. Our friendship has spanned decades, beginning when we were just 20 years old. As Proverbs 18:24 reminds us, "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Jerry embodies this sentiment, being not just a friend, but a brother in every sense.
In this episode, we take a nostalgic journey through our shared history, recounting how we first met, sharing humorous anecdotes, and reflecting on the tragic loss of a dear friend. Despite the miles between us, with Jerry residing in Louisiana, it was a joy to have him back in Indiana. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and the opportunity to record this podcast together. Join us as we celebrate the enduring bond of friendship and the memories that have shaped our lives.

September 02, 2025Falconry Chronicles Episode 183: Rob Rainey
This episode kicks off several episodes that were recorded while in Oklahoma for a weekend back in July. Our guest for this episode, Rob Rainey, helped get everyone lined up for these recordings, and was also kind enough to host me for the weekend while I was there. It would've been very difficult to make this happen without his help, so big thanks to him for his help! In this recording, we talked about his experiences helping out with different organizations, including NAFA and the Oklahoma Falconers Assocation, flying goshawks, vizslas, and other great stuff. I'm happy to have ma

August 26, 2025Falconry Chronicles Episode 182: Heather McNemar
This remotely recorded episode was another that was a year in the making. I finally had a chance to sit down with Heather to talk about flying Cooper's hawks, kestrels, red-tailed hawks, her motivation for starting her falconry supply business, Mountain State Falconry Supply, her book Squirrel Hawking in Appalachia, and other cool stuff. I'm glad I finally got a chance to get her recorded and talk shop! If you're interested in some good falconry equipment, particularly for kestrels and micros, head to http://www.mountainstatefalconrysupply.com.

August 22, 2025Grace in the Chase: Finding Grace in the Hunt: Lee Wade’s Journey from Shadows to the Light
In this heartfelt episode of "Grace in the Chase," we delve into the inspiring journey of Lee Wade. Born into a challenging environment, Lee faced the trials of a broken family and the influence of siblings entangled in a life of trouble, drugs, and alcohol. Yet, it was the unexpected kindness of a group of coonhunters during his formative years that offered him a glimpse of a different path. Coonhunting became more than a hobby; it was a lifeline that steered him away from the shadows of his brothers' choices.
The turning point in Lee's life came with the entrance of Jamie, his future wife, whose presence ignited a desire within him to break free from the cycle he had known. Over the past decade, Lee has embraced the profound truth that family is everything. Coonhunting has not only kept him grounded but has also led to an impressive track record of achievements with his remarkable English dogs over the last three years.
Lee's story is one of resilience and hope, especially as he and his family navigate the challenging health issues faced by their son. This episode is a poignant reminder of the hope we find in Christ, who provides exactly what we need when life presents its toughest challenges. Join us as Lee shares his journey, one that will surely touch your heart and inspire you to find grace in your own chase.

August 19, 2025Falconry Chronicles Episode 181: Jerry Ostwinkle
This episode is the other recording that I did while in Arizona a few weeks ago, and thanks to the encouragement of mutual friends Kalen and Amy, I was able to meet up with Jerry and get his story while at Amy and Donnie's place. Jerry is another falconer with a very long career in the sport, with a lot of very unique experiences. He talks about flying golden eagles and ornate hawk eagles in AZ, his unique way of getting interested in falconry through raptor rehabilitation (which in that instance, he caused as a kid), working for and dealing with Federal Fish and Game, and what led him to eventually start the Arizona Raptor Center. This is another jam packed episode that encompasses a very eventful life, so we hope you learn something from it!

August 12, 2025Falconry Chronicles Episode 180: Sabrina Serna
The 2024 NAFA meet was the first time there was a chance to meet and talk to Sabrina in person, and it was then that we first discussed being on each other's respective podcasts. We finally made this happen recently, and on this remotely recorded episode, we talk about why Sabrina decided to restart and continue on with her show, what species she prefers to fly, her preferences in dog breeds, and aspirations for her falconry moving forward. If you want to hear me on her show as well, look up the Bird Hunter Diaries podcast and check it out and show her some support too!
