Unsaved husbands needed to be “won” to Christ! When Peter said “if any obey not the word” he used “if” in a first-class conditional way. He could have used the word “since.” There was nothing “iffy” about these men. None of them obeyed the word. All were unsaved.

Verse 7 is packed full of meaning. In context, this verse provides the best practical advice in the Bible for husbands whose wives are unsaved. Peter’s advice is that unequally-yoked husbands – Christian men married to unbelieving women – should be model husbands.
