Ruth explores her experiences of growing up in a family with a father who'd survived the Vietnam War, trying to win his love, and how she just couldn't measure up.
Ruth Clare is the award-winning author of the memoir, Enemy. Her book, published by Penguin in 2016, explores her experience of growing up in a home with family violence and is a search to understand how the Vietnam War impacted her father’s behaviour. Ruth is also a TEDx and keynote speaker who hosts and speaks at events and conferences Australia-wide using many of the skills she developed after working throughout her twenties as a professional actor.
Ruth’s writing has been described as “...raw, ...evocative, ...magnetic, ...insightful and ...brilliantly moving,” and has appeared in publications such as The Age, Meanjin, Elle and The Good Weekend. Ruth is working on her second non-fiction book, Powerful, which focuses on ways to make it through the dark moments, and how changing the stories we tell ourselves about our lives can reconnect us to our personal power.
