I appreciate it so much when you guys send me emails. And I was recently inspired by a listener who shared something she would do as a single mother when trying to keep the home relatively clean.
The checklist she mentioned:
1. Go through every room and only throw away any garbage you see.
2. Do The same with recyclables and put in bag.
3. Go through every room and pick up any dishes, cups, and utensils and put in sink.
4. Go through every room and put away shoes.
5. Do the same with any clothes or towels and put away or in dirty laundry pile
6. Do the same with books, magazines, mail and paperwork that is out of place.
TAKE A BREAK and have some diet coke and potato chips
7. Wash the dishes and wipe down the counters and stove top.
8. Put a load of laundry in the washer.
9. Vacuum floors.
10. Clean toilet and wipe down sink in bathroom.
And here was my amended one for my apartment that I tried:
1. Empty/load dishwasher and run if full.
2. Go through every room and collect dirty dishes, put in dishwasher or sink.
3. Go through every room and only throw out garbage.
4. Go through every room and put away shoes.
5. Do the same with any clothes or towels and put away or in dirty laundry.
6. Do the same with books, mail, paperwork that is out of place.
7. Organize the bookshelves
8. Make bed
9. Wipe down kitchen counters and stove.
10. Clean toilet and wipe down sink and counter.
11. Organize bathroom counter
12. Vacuum rugs
Done and Done! Give this a try and let me know how it goes. Or if you have a checklist of your own you'd like to share, please reach out, I'd love to hear it!
