Healing Medicine: Mindfulness, Mindset & Physician Well-Being

154. Move Beyond Imposter Syndrome

Listen Later

Everyone who does new things and stretches themselves has imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome doesn't mean you are a problem or there is a problem.

For most of us, imposter syndrome is a normal reaction to new things and a habitual response.

Reach out, connect and ask for support.

Noticing the objective qualities and credentials you possess is helpful.

Focusing on your experience, skills, knowledge, strengths and the hundreds that you have helped already in your life helps.

What you have accomplished already"

Borrow someone else's belief in you until you believe it yourself.

Remind yourself that feeling like an imposter is an old habit.

You don't have to convince yourself "you are enough" to move beyond imposter syndrome. There are many other accessible strategies to strengthen your confidence and belief in yourself

Remind yourself that there are no scarcity of viewpoints, stories, and ways to address important issues.

Your approach is "another door."

We don't need to put others down to make us feel better about ourselves.

We can come from abundance and invite others into the same room through different doors and each teacher or expert can be a different door.

Everyone can bring valuable insights on a vast topic.

Focus on the special, unique, different things you specifically bring to the table.

What will people miss out on if you don't show up as the best, most courageous version of you?

Give yourself permission to shine and bloom. Only then can people who need you who you can help, see you.

Putting yourself out there in new ways helps to be the catalyst for others

Remember confidence is what comes AFTER you have done something well.

When you start out you don't need confidence. You need commitment, courage, and practice After you are capable and practiced is when you feel confident. Not when you begin.

Work with us to grow mindfulness practice and/or get coached. Coaching and mindfulness can help you move beyond imposter syndrome with awareness, tools, strategies and support. We all need reminders, help, and coaching.
