When Caller Shea, a woman desperately trying to escape the trauma of an abusive upbringing and a deceitful marriage, discovers the power of her own resilience and self-worth, she must confront the anxiety of entering the dating world and the fear of being "tricked" again.
"I am learning to be grounded in who I am, working towards understanding this idea of who God has told me that I am, and I am definitely going to have my eyes wide open to a partner that will cherish me."
Shea grew up with a father who had a sex addiction and was physically abusive. She served a mission for the LDS church, during which her heart was softened towards marriage. After meeting her husband, Shea asked him questions about his addiction and was lied to. Ten years later, her husband confessed, and her world was turned upside down. Shea attended an ARP group, invested in therapy, and eventually divorced her husband. Despite the pain, Shea has found joy in her life and is now looking to pursue healthy relationships in the future. She is aware of her desire to be cherished by a man, but also recognizes the need to stay grounded and not be desperate in her pursuit of a new relationship.
In this episode:
1. How can we make sure that we don't enter a relationship in desperation?
2. What does it look like to discern healthy relationships from unhealthy ones?
3. How to get ready to enter a new relationship after a divorce.
