The Brothers Discuss: A common struggle some men have is a form of being so nice for the reason of trying to obtain validity by pleasing everyone. The brothers talk about how some men go from one end of the nice spectrum all the way to the opposite side of the mean spectrum. Self-care becomes an important part of recovery and must not be done at the expense of being the "nice guy." Finding a healthy balance is needed between being the "nice guy" and being boundaried. The brothers point out some attribute of the "nice guy" being that they are so worried about what everyone else thinks about them and does not live with integrity. Being "nice" in this way is not an authentic reason to be a nice guy, you must be a nice guy for the right reasons. The struggle comes when there is a mix between someone who is genuinely a good guy but has these tendencies to please everyone.
