In episode 26 of The First Gen Coach, host Carla Santamaria interviewed Alejandra Carbajal, a first generation professional who successfully made the transition from the nonprofit sector into the private sector, and fast-tracking her financial and personal goals along the way.
In this episode, we discussed: How a love for working with students has fueled Alejandra’s career
“Be kind to yourself. This process does not happen overnight, or how you may anticipate. Going from career readiness to corporate recruiter is not what I expected in the beginning, but I am happy to have discovered… another way to continue to do what I am passionate about. You have to be open to the process." - Alejandra Carbajal
I have had the privilege to work in roles where I have been able to use my experience of being first gen to empower others so their journey to success is greater and stronger. I have worked in the nonprofit sector for the past 4 years with adults reentering the workforce, high school students, and college students where I provided career readiness and led recruitment efforts in the last 2 years. I am excited to pivot into the corporate sector as a recruiter where I will continue to support others to access opportunities for their own economic mobility.
