41: Speaking to Your Ideal Client

Listen Later

They share that when someone is looking for a therapist, the process can be extremely overwhelming. Kelly and Miranda point out that therapist marketing efforts can, at times, make it worse for people who are trying to find the right therapist for their specific issues. They address the ethical concerns that many therapists have raised about niching and focusing on specific areas of psychotherapy. Kelly and Miranda talk about the culture of therapist education and how it affects therapist confidence. They reveal the most profitable niche for therapists, what a niche is, and the concept of ideal clients. They break down the process of writing to ideal clients on therapist websites, and talk about some of the barriers therapists find in putting what they know into words. Kelly and Miranda talk about how putting ourselves out there helps to reduce stigma about seeking mental health treatment, and how the media contributes to misconceptions about therapy. They explain that therapists who focus on working with the clients they can best serve can overcome negative perceptions about therapy which might be held by the general public. Miranda shares data about outcomes and how they make therapy better for the client and the therapist. Kelly and Miranda talk about various methods of marketing and finding the right fit as a therapist, whether that means blogging, podcasting, vlogging, public speaking or some other method of getting the word out. More information can be found on Kelly & Miranda’s website, www.zynnyme.com. They host a podcast which can be found there as well, and don’t miss all the free content available for therapists looking to find more joy in private practice.
