In the movie Collateral, a taxi driver tells Tom Cruise's character that he's been driving a taxi for twelve years but is planning to open his own limo service. This is a classic example of climbing a ladder that’s leaning against the wrong wall. Value knowing what you don’t want to do - and use that new knowledge to define what you do want to do. This is an ongoing process of knowing more and making adjustments along the way. And yes, your distaste of your current work will indeed lead to an earlier death.

Nelson Mandela was put in prison at the age of 44 and was expected to die there.

When he was released from prison at the age or 72, he was asked how he survived all those years in prison. 

His answer, “I wasn’t surviving. I was preparing.”

How do we respond when things aren’t going as planned or you’re “imprisoned?” Maybe we just need to reframe some of what we’re going through.
