El Vendedor Más Grande del Mundo relata la historia de Hafid, un camellero que aspira a ser el mejor vendedor.
 
La narración describe su viaje inicial a Belén, donde regala un valioso manto a un bebé recién nacido en una cueva, un acto de compasión que Pathros, su señor, interpreta como una señal.


Pathros le confía a Hafid diez pergaminos antiguos que contienen la sabiduría necesaria para alcanzar un éxito sin precedentes, con la condición de que los principios no se compartan hasta que surja la persona adecuada.

Hafid se convierte en el vendedor más exitoso de su tiempo, pero renuncia a su fortuna para esperar la señal que le indicará a quién entregar los pergaminos.
 
Finalmente, un hombre llamado Saulo, más tarde conocido como Pablo, llega al palacio de Hafid con un manto similar al que Hafid dio en Belén, y Hafid comprende que es la persona predestinada para recibir la sabiduría de los pergaminos y difundirla al mundo.
