A retired Navy Submarine Chief Petty Officer, Michael Dillard is a side hustling entrepreneur balancing his 9 to 5 with 4 businesses. An office incident moved Michael out of his employee mentality when he realized that it was up to him to take care of his family because there was truly no such thing as job security.
In 1994 Michael Dillard found himself homeless and raising his 1 year old daughter. Leaving his position in the US Navy at the age of 24 to pursue a “promised” 6-7 figure income in insurance he found himself penniless and homeless just 6 months later. He sold knives, artwork and even his own plasma to buy food for him and his daughter.
Michael's entrepreneurial mindset is one of determination and believing that he was endowed with a higher purpose. In this episode he shares with us the 3 things he has learned on his journey thus far and drops a great deal of knowledge on government contracts and partnering with your own non-profit.
Episode Quote: Being an entrepreneur is a mindset. You have to see things as opportunities all the time. ~ Soledad O'Brien
