65. My Innocence Was Stolen with Tabitha Ferguson

Listen Later

As a kid, Tabitha Fergusin was verbally, emotionally, sexually, and physically abused. She was bullied by her peers and was later pushed into the juvenile justice system due to her negative behaviors - behaviors that were a cry for help.

By the age of ten, she had been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Parent-Child Relational Problems, Partner Relational Disorder, and a Developmental Disorder. Later she was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Emotional Disturbance, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and ADHD. Over the years, Tabitha gained a laundry list of diagnoses with no one ever exploring the root of her symptoms - trauma.

Today, we're chatting about...

  • The adversity Tabitha faced as a child
  • How Tabitha's trauma was medicated and labeled
  • What inspired Tabitha to share her courageous story
  • The importance of schools using trauma-informed practices
  • Tabitha’s thoughts on mental health medication
  • Why not all doctors are omniscient when it comes to mental health
  • What an ACE score is and Tabitha’s score
  • The importance of getting to the root of kiddos symptoms
  • My thoughts on how Glennon Doyle discusses mental health medication in her book Untamed
  • Tabitha's history of substance use, suicide attempts, and what she wishes she could tell her younger self
  • What life looks like now for Tabitha
