In this episode I interview my dear friend and first gen tech baddie Janzel Manalansan. Janzel is an early 30’s Filipino-American eldest daughter of immigrants who has leveraged her network and transferable skills to job hop every 15 months. One of the things I love about Janzel and why I invited her to the show is that she is so genuine in her approach to building relationships with people and so fantastic at advocating for herself. She talks about both of these things on the show as she shares her trajectory from public service to law to tech. She also talks about the importance and benefits of asking other people for help and how to grow your career by talking to people you want to talk to and being in places you want to be in.
About today's guest:
Janzel is an early 30’s Filipino-American eldest daughter of immigrants. She’s the first in her family to go to college, getting her Political Science - Public Service Bachelors from the University of California Davis in 2014. She’s always been the kind of person who challenges her paradigms of the world and herself, with a focus on communities, whether leveraging, growing or celebrating them. Janzel originally planned on being an attorney to serve local communities, but after trying out both Big Law and smaller firms she pivoted her career to tech, for financial reasons, better work life balance and to follow her heart to San Francisco where her then long distance boyfriend resided. She and her husband moved back home to Southern California in the pandemic and enjoy exploring coffee shops with their 3 year old goldendoodle Nova.
