Admit it, you feel your best after a good nights’ sleep.
Me, too!😊
In fact☝️, I am absolutely obsessed with sleep.
Now, that doesn’t mean that I’m lazy by any means. (So don’t worry if you, too, enjoy a good sleep.😉)
It just means that I appreciate the benefits that a restful sleep brings to my mind, body and spirit!🤗
This time of year - and, honestly, any time that we feel a bit more stress than usual - a good sleep habit becomes even more important.
In the hustle and bustle, you may be staying up later to get extra things done like:
In turn, you find yourself looking for a pick-me-up the next afternoon just to make it through the day.
So you grab a cup of coffee☕, which keeps you up later than normal again, and the vicious cycle continues!
Based on my own personal sleep experience and reinforced by habit research, sleep research, ayurveda and yoga nidra, I have developed some ✅tips and ✅tricks to help keep me out of this sleepless cycle.
The trick is checking in and reframing during key🔑 points of the day.
First thing in the morning:
If you wake up tired or late, take a moment to remind yourself that it’s all good.👍 You are not doing brain surgery today, and you have the energy and capability to accomplish the day ahead of you.
Then maybe you wash your face, grab a cup of coffee and check of a quick to-do item to get the day started on the right foot.👟
In the afternoon:
Take a beat around 3 or 4pm to reset your nervous system in the midst of a busy time.
Instead of the cup of coffee you think you need to push through the day, try a cup of herbal tea🍵 to warm and hydrate.
And don’t fight the yawn!🥱
A yawn or a sigh is a signal that our nervous system is settling down and preparing for the sleep ahead.
In the evening:
Let go of your day and remind yourself that tomorrow is a fresh start!😁
Get a bedtime routine, and start it at the same time each night so that your body is triggered to let go into sleep when you need it to.
Rest well, Habit Thrivers!😴
