The spring transition is a hot topicš„ everywhere right now: podcasts, newscasts, blogs, social media posts, etc.
It seems like` absolutely everyone is talking about changes.
Changes in weatherš¤, in health and fitnessš“š¼āāļø, in foodš, in activities ⦠and, of course, in habits and routines.š
Today, on Episode #97 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we are wrapping up the month of April by taking stock of the habits and routines we have started establishing for ourselves this season.
Are they worth the time and effort we are putting into them?š
How do we even know?š«£
Well, we can start by asking ourselves three questions:š¤
āIs this habit our routine bringing me closer to my desired state?
āAm I craving or missing this habit/routine when I donāt have it?
āAre others noticing a difference?
In order to answer the first question, you must first know what your desired state is.
Letās say you have begun a new habit of walking a mile every morning.š
Maybe your desired state is higher endurance, weight loss or even just increasing your step count.š
A morning walk would surely accomplish any of those goals!
So, question #1:ā
Now, what if you miss a day?
Maybe you decided to sleep inš“ and didnāt have time for your walk.
Maybe you twisted your knee𦵠and had to take a few days off.
Maybe it poured rainš§ļø and you werenāt able to go outside.
At first, it might seem like no big deal. Maybe it even feels like a ābreak.ā
But, as the day goes on, you find yourself thinking: āMan, I feel sluggishš„± when I donāt get my walk in ⦠I am disappointed that I didnāt meet my step goal today.ā
Question #2:ā
Finally, do friends, coworkers and family seeš§ the changes in you?
Maybe they notice that you have lost a little weight or that you donāt get as windedš®āšØ going up the stairs in your building.
Or they might just comment on how you seem happierš¤ and more positive than before.
After all, exercise releases endorphins that elevate your mood!
So, question #3:ā Ā
If you checked off all these questions with your particular habit or routine, give yourself a huge high five, a pat on the back and a ājob well done.āš
And keep at it!
