Episode 154: The Disappearance of the Sodder Children

On Christmas Eve 1945, the Sodder family residence was reduced to debris after a fire burned it to the ground. George and Jennie Sodder woke just after 1:30am Christmas morning to the smell of smoke, and called to the children to get out of the home immediately. Of the couple’s 10 children, 5 were still missing when the flames were put out. The disappearance of the Sodder children is a case that is still unsolved today. Over the years, several theories have emerged, including that the children perished in the fire, were stolen and sold on the black market, and more.

In fact, it was so vile, daytime television wouldn’t cover the case because the details were so gruesome. Keith and Elaine Dardeen were kind, hardworking, caring people who wanted the best for their 3-year-old son Peter and the baby they had on the way. Halloween 1974 started as it always had for the O’Bryan family in Deer Park, TX; Timothy (age 8) and Elizabeth (age 5) were eagerly awaiting Trick-or-Treating. Ronald took his two children to a nearby neighborhood along with a friend and his children so the kids could Trick-or-Treat together. That evening, when the O’Bryans returned home, the children were each allowed a piece of candy before bed. After eating his, Timothy became violently ill. How did this seemingly healthy 8-year-old become deathly ill in a matter of hours?
