[REBROADCAST FROM October 27, 2021] Despite receiving relatively little commercial success in their original 10-year run, The Velvet Underground have become one of the most influential and iconic bands in rock history, instantly recognizable from their Andy Warhol-produced banana album cover. A new documentary from director Todd Haynes takes a fresh look at the band and its legacy. Haynes joins to talk about "The Velvet Underground," in theaters now and available to stream on Apple TV+.
On January 25, thirty years ago, artists and journalists collaborated to host the Barbed-Wire Kisses panel at the 1992 Sundance Film Festival, which helped spur a new LGBTQ+ film movement, New Queer Cinema. Amongst the panel members were filmmakers like Derek Jarman and Todd Haynes, artists Sadie Benning and Isaac Julien, and critic B. Ruby Rich. Journalist Erik Piepenburg joins us to discuss the panel and its legacy, which he looks at in his new piece "The Day New Queer Cinema Said: Let’s Do This," which also features discussion with some of the original panel members.

We speak with writer and director Sian Heder, and Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin, who stars as Jackie Rossi in the film. “CODA” is available to stream now on Apple TV Plus, and has been nominated for two SAG Awards.
