Maria is the President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the largest business association in Los Angeles County that represents more than 235,000 businesses across the Los Angeles region. Ms. Salinas became the first woman and Latina to lead the Chamber in its 132-year history in August of 2018. Throughout this episode, Maria shares her experience growing up as the daughter of Mexican immigrants, how she has become confident in her voice, her career journey to becoming President & CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, and what her advice is for amigas.

Growing up, having a mentor, a person who can support us and push us to overcome our limits, can be a game-changer. This is even more valid for girls and women. Although gender equality is evolving and becoming more vital in our society, there are still a lot of gaps that need to be filled. Women are still precluded from certain professions and careers because of their sex. This is where a mentor figure comes into place to push these women to follow their dreams and break glass ceilings.

Grief is inevitable. Even if we’d love our loved ones to live forever, we all know this is impossible. Everyone at a certain point in their lives will experience a loss, and everyone will have to go through a grieving process in their own unique way. This process can cause a lot of pain, but, as with all the journeys, it can lead us to grow as human beings. Grief is complicated and painful. However, if we find the strength to embrace it instead of fight it, grief can help us find new meaning in life and open ourselves to the power of the universe.
