Investigative journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh recently uncovered a brazen attempt to suppress a corruption investigation involving the Independent Development Trust (IDT).

In a covert meeting on August 3, 2025, at a Stellenbosch wine farm, suspended IDT CEO Tebogo Malaka and spokesperson Phasha Makgolane allegedly offered Myburgh R60,000 in cash to halt his investigation into an IDT contract linked to one of Malaka’s high-end properties.

The meeting was secretly recorded, capturing the moment when Makgolane presented the cash in a Dior bag, accompanied by promises of additional rewards if Myburgh complied. This audacious bribery attempt was exposed through exclusive video and audio footage published by Daily Maverick, sparking widespread public outrage.

The Malaka Family Trust denies the allegations, claiming political motivation and calling for an independent inquiry.

Australia has stunned the world with a world‑first decree: starting 10 December 2025, Australian children under 16 will be banned from having YouTube accounts joining Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and X under sweeping social media legislation. The government justified the measure after research found that nearly four in ten Australian kids reported experiencing their most recent online harm on.
