Parenting is hard. Parenting children in crisis or with difficult behaviors is extremely hard. Emotions such as frustration, discouragement and exhaustion can show up and turn us into parents and people we don’t recognize anymore. We are weary from the battle that is parenting.

From television to movies, to social media and beyond, media has become more and more sexualized. As Christians, we are to be set apart, to turn away from sexualized media, especially pornography. But many Christians are having a difficult time doing that.

As porn has become more accepted throughout Western society, fewer Christians today find porn sinful. More men and women who self-identify as “religious” say porn is okay and they are doing so at an accelerated rate. In 2017, 16%  of Americans who claimed religion is very important to them also said that porn is morally acceptable. In just one year, that number rose to 22% saying porn is morally acceptable.

While some Christians accept pornography, many more say they know it’s morally wrong and they want to stop but they keep going back to it. That is hurting the church, and it’s hurting marriages. A survey showed that in 56% of divorces,, a major contributing factor was one spouse's “obsessive interest in pornographic websites.”

Today, my friend and colleague, Sam Black, who wrote a new book called “The Healing Church: What Churches Get Wrong about Pornography and How to Fix It”. Sam is the Director of Life Change Education at Covenant Eyes. He has served with Covenant Eyes for 16 years and is a former journalist. Sam also wrote The Porn Circuit: Understand Your Brain and Break Porn Habits. He is passionate about helping Christians live free from pornography because he knows you keep what you give away. He walks his own grace-filled journey with the support of valued allies.

Whether you are directly affected by porn or not, you know someone close to you who is struggling. I hope you will listen, share with everyone you know, and help your church to become a safe place for people to confess their sins for healing.

The unthinkable happened early in the first quarter of the  @buffalobills and  @Bengals NFL game on Monday, January 2, 2023.

Buffalo Bills Safety, Damar Hamlin, made what looked like a routine tackle on Bengals Receiver, Tee Higgins at midfield. Damar stood, removed his mouthguard, then collapsed to the turf.

After receiving CPR to regain his heartbeat, Darmar was promptly taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Over the next hours, the nation seemed to stop what they were doing to #prayfordamar as we waited for an update on his condition.

In the days to come, I saw a divided nation come together to #pray for a situation that was out of their control. I saw those who had been critical of anything that appeared to be "religious" immediately petition #God on behalf of Damar Hamlin.

 @espn announcer Dan Orlovsky took it upon himself, during a live broadcast, to not only talk about praying for Damar, but to actually pray--on live TV. Good for you, Dan!

What I began to wonder was, is this nation that is largely denying the power of #JesusChrist, recognizing our need and dependency on Him?

In this powerful and personal talk, Dr. Mark McNear discusses the importance of finding and expressing our words after experiencing childhood trauma. Dr. McNear is a Clinical Social Worker and has worked with many people who have experienced trauma.

In this conversation, Dr. McNear will share his personal story of surviving childhood abuse and how it has shaped his life and work. He will talk about the importance of finding and sharing our words after trauma, and how this can help us heal and move on. This talk is perfect for anyone who has experienced trauma in their life and would like to learn more about healing and moving on.

His story includes sexual abuse from his father, a sense of abandonment, and addiction to drugs in his adult life to help numb the pain of his past trauma. At a young age, Mark's father threw him in the trash can and told him to stay there because he was nothing but trash. These and other experiences in Dr. McNear's childhood caused him to devalue himself and his life.

After months of in-patient rehab, Dr. McNear found that his healing began when he found the courage, in Jesus Christ, to share his story with others. This not only allowed the healing to begin in his own life, but it became a resource he uses today to help others heal.

As the healing continues for Dr. McNear, even today, he sees how God was always with him and never looked at him with anything but unconditional love.

Dr. McNear has recently written a book to share his story of trauma and ultimately healing. His book, "Finding My Words: A Ruthless Commitment to Healing Gently After Trauma" is available at the link below. Josh McDowell provides the foreword in Dr. McNear's book with high regard.

As an 8-year-old, Pastor Don Wickstrum ("Fastest Pastor") had a dream to race in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb after seeing Bobby Unser do it on TV.  Despite his dream, Don eventually created one of the largest robotic integrators in the country.

In 2018, Don received a doctor’s report that no one wants to hear—colon cancer. His doctor advised Don to step away from his business to extend his life. The diagnosis would put Don on a new journey with purpose and fulfillment. This former atheist accepted Jesus Christ with a new perspective on his life. Whatever Don was going to do, it would include serving God because of his deep understanding of who he was in Christ.

A friend encouraged Don to pursue his dream. After he and his wife sought God’s direction, Don’s childhood dream would come to true. Eventually, the multimedia company “I Am Second”, founded by Norm Miller, would document Don’s story in a movie called, “Chasing Hope.” The film follows Don as he shares the Hope of Jesus Christ on and off the track.

Don will race again on June 25, 2023. He will race 12.42 miles that day complete with 156 turns. With each turn, Don will face each one, all while Chasing Hope.

We invite you to stop for a moment, breathe deep, close your eyes, and listen as several children read through the Christmas story from Luke 2:1-20.

It is easy to get caught up in our Christmas checklists and quite possibly miss the reason that we celebrate this holiday season. We wanted to hear straight from the hearts of children as they read the Christmas story, then share their insights into that first Christmas night. They also share with us why Jesus is special and important to them.

Our hope and prayer this week is that you will put your world on pause to reflect the Hope we have in Jesus Christ who came into our corrupt world to live as one of us, to remain sinless, and become the ultimate sacrificial Lamb--the only One who could reunite us with God, the Creator of all that is.

THAT is the Hope that we have as Christ-followers. Hope placed anywhere else is temporal and will not satisfy.

If you don't know Jesus as your Savior, find a local Bible-believing church.  Attend a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day service, and tell someone that you want to find true Hope in life.
