Today's episode is a book review on Dr. Susan David' s book "Emotional Agility". We're culturally taught to reduce our emotions to 'good' or 'bad'--'right' or 'wrong'. But David argues that this reductive thinking of our emotions produces a rigidity that makes it difficult for us to cope with real life as it unfolds.
Today we discuss the four tips David gives us in her book on how to unhook ourselves from our destructive thinking habits.
Further:
Book: Emotional Agility
Harvard Business Review: Emotional Agility
TED Talk: The gift and power of emotional courage

Our limited minds have convinced us that life can only ever consist of "either-or"s. That two opposites cannot co-exist. It is always either black or white. Good or bad. Up or down. We are limited and finite in our imagination of our emotional capacities, and are constantly reducing our experiences to one thing or the other.
But this creates a problem when considering the concept of gratitude. It puts us at a risk of perceiving both ourselves and other people as phonies for expressing our gratitude during difficult seasons, or as pessimists for not acknowledging the good thing that stands right outside their door.
The good gratitude practice quickly runs the risk of being a very dangerous and toxic thing, unless we begin seeing how our messy human lives are in fact all about the "both-and"s.
Today's episode is vulnerable and important! Happy listening.

As we are continually surrounded with reminders of what we don’t have, lets get one thing straight: a partner can add to you and support you on your already-existent journey of self discovery and improvement. But there isn’t a single human being who can complete you. How could they, when you’re already complete as you are?
Sure, you can buy yourself flowers. But not in someone else’s face.
You can buy yourself flowers because you are enough, and you deserve to establish an inside-out self-sufficient sense of self-worth, whether or not you meet a suitable and constructive companion to happily do the rest of your life with.
Happy valentines day you superstar you!

I took a trip to Siwa on my own. I didn't know a single person, as i ventured into the middle of the desert for a few days of solitude. A few things happened that made me feel small, and completely recalibrated my perspective.
Let me tell you all about it in today's episode.

I have come to learn that there are two ways of living this crazy life. We can choose to live our days in limbo, letting life happen to us and merely reacting; or, we can choose to live our days with intention—with purposeful awareness of the things that truly matter.
We’re here for a short period of time guys. How do we want to live? Consider this episode your sign to pause for a moment and recalibrate. Heck, let's recalibrate together!

Emotional minimalism is a crucial ingredient to letting go. Figuring out what is in our heart chambers, taking up space and maiming our movement. [In my opinion], emotional decluttering is a life-long practice. Something we need to turn into a ritual so that we can free up the space we need to love ourselves, and others, well.
In today's episode we discuss three practical ways to declutter our emotions on a regular basis.

I love taking January to myself. A time of a very intentional easing into the new year: a time during which i can begin to set in place the systems and routines that will essentially ensure i arrive at my goals by the end of the year.
Goals don’t have to be set in stone. And we don’t need to be too hard on ourselves if/when we don’t accomplish the things we set out to accomplish.
Goals are simply a helpful tool we get to use to our advantage, on our journeys towards becoming better people who lead fuller lives.
BUT, i've discovered that goal-setting is not for everyone…
In today's episode we discuss what i believe is the number one determining factor of whether or not our goals can survive the test of real life and fluctuating humanity. We talk about introspection as the key to every habit that actually sticks!

Welcome to the very first episode of 2023!
I'm still amazed that i get to do this--use my voice to share my thoughts and feelings about this crazy messy life we're all living.
I ended 2022 and started 2023 with a lot of dedicated time for contemplation and introspection. I did some true soul searching and heart digging to decide what things need to be left behind in order to make room for new flowers to bloom. BLOOM. That is my word of the year--blossom! But beautiful flowers cannot grow if their seeds are choked by thorns and thistles.
In today's episode i shared a couple of big things i unpacked from my trunk as i drove into 2023. Two deadly and poisonous thorns that are absolutely out of line with the person i thrive to become.
As you listen to today's episode, who is the person you want to become? And what must you leave behind in order to become him/her?
