The HEAD/BODY METAPHOR in Ephesians 5:15-6:9 is often misunderstood. People mistakenly think and teach something about military hierarchy when this passage is NOT about that! 

Most people miss the COMPLETELY NEW MEANING FOR "SUBMISSION" Paul puts together in Ephesians 5:21 and uses immediately after in 5:22-24. He changes the worldly vertical meaning with someone UNDER submitting to someone OVER to a Spirit-filled Christian reciprocating horizontal relationship of building up one another and submitting to that building up from another!
