And the man the book was written about, spoiler alert, was NOT A SELL OUT like so many of us have come to believe. In fact, he was an enslaved man that was intelligent, freakishly strong, a husband AND the father of 12 children that just wanted to protect his family and LEGALLY pay his way to freedom. So how did his legacy get twisted into something that it’s not??
