We play a game of Buy or Sell with questions on whether the Seahawks WR corps will remain the same, if Geno Smith's option will be picked up in nine days and more. Then, we react to Jeff Passan on this team being better than last year's on paper and whether the M's could add any of the remaining free agents. Plus, Justin and Salk have another edition of Ranked for you.
Maura creates a game for Brock & Salk to 'get to know' the newest coaches in the market and of course it immediately goes off the rails. ESPN's Senior MLB Insider Jeff Passan joins the guys to discuss the status of this Mariners offseason and how this team would fare vs the 2023 roster. Answers may be surprising!
Brock & Salk spend some time debating why/why not the Hawks should hire Chip Kelly before getting into what would you most like to see be different in the new regime: Focus on LOS, Overall toughness, Discipline/details, Creativity? Brock's Blue 88.
Salk opens the show with the news that Chip Kelly has been interviewed for the OC for the Seahawks and how excited that would make him because of his offensive scheme techniques. The Mariners pick up another pitcher off waivers and we learn about a potential new sports TV deal before revisiting the conversation with former Seahawks scout Jim Nagy.
Brock explains why everyone we talk to has such a hard time coming up with a comp for Michael Penix Jr. Then, Salk breaks how encouraging it is to look at some of the ZIPS projections for the M's positions players and starting rotation. Plus, Justin and Salk have a childish Ranked for you.
The old favorite 'Answer the Question, Jerk!' returns as Brock & Salk answer random listener questions about food, sports, and their personal lives. The guys are joined by one of "the best marketers in the entire sports world" - Jim Nagy of the Reese's Senior Bowl where Salk makes his pitch for the candy giant.
Should the Seahawks: Do nothing, build for another year around Geno & draft on the LOS to get better? Keep Geno but make him a bridge to someone they draft or acquire this offseason? Cut Geno and draft his successor? Cut Geno, sign Drew Lock for less? Salk believes they need so much help up front (without a 2nd round pick) to build a Mike Macdonald team.
Salk opens the show with a puppy story before asking if Matt Chapman could be the kind of 2-win player that puts the Mariners roster over the Rangers in some of the projections that he shares from ZiPs and others, then asks Maura & Justin to see if they can match the player to their projected ranking.
We love the Leslie Frazier hire and how it brings a level of experience from a variety of teams and systems that Macdonald hasn't had. Where are we with the OC search? Then, we discuss the Athletic report that the Commanders were still interested in Macdonald when the Seahawks swooped in and offered more money. Plus, Justin and Salk have another edition of Ranked for you.
Brock & Salk do a little Super Bowl preview and debate some Patrick Mahomes/49ers talking points before a deep dive into this Mariners offseason and how Salk believes they could be just one player - namely Matt Chapman or Cody Bellinger - away from being a serious contender for the AL West.
