Mike and Julie join me on the show to talk about the growth of each of their respective businesses—Mike as the co-owner with his wife Dr. Rasa Tamulavichus of Big City Optical, a 17 location practice in the greater Chicagoland area and Dr. Julie Helmus, the G2 owner of Helmus Optometry, a super-single location in Davis, California.

 

In this enjoyable conversation, we talk about the mindset involved in deciding to go multi-location vs staying single, how Mike solved economies of scale within their multi location practice and how Julie’s thinking through the same goals within her practice, the “skill of observation” that most business owners possess, how they each think about reinvestment of capital back into the business and their funding model to feed expansion, and how remote optometry is helping Big City Optical “scale special” within their practice.
