CASA/GAL (0:00:00)
Every child deserves a safe environment to grow up in. But the unfortunate truth is that not all children have loving families, and many spend their formative years in dangerous home situations. So, what is there to do? This is exactly where the work of the CASA/GAL Association comes in, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children who have experienced neglect or abuse by pairing them with a trained volunteer advocate that can provide them a safe home environment. Today we’re joined by Sally Erny, the deputy chief executive officer of the National CASA/GAL Association for Children, here with us to talk about their child advocates and their work in keeping children in safe situations.
UFOs (0:13:22)
There are some things out there that are just unexplainable. One of these phenomenathat many people love to zero in on is the conspiracy of UFOs. This field of the unusual is so compelling that many scientists have devoted their lives to study it. So where did the history of the Unidentified Flying Object begin? Why have these stories of abduction and aliens enraptured our culture? Here to discuss the history of the UFO and its cultural impact is the author of "Conspiracy Films: A Tour of Dark Places in the American Conscious," Barna Donovan.
Supporting Cancer Patients (0:27:30)
Here at The Lisa Show, we’re always on the lookout for new service opportunities. This week we wanted to highlight a unique opportunity to serve cancer patients. The Road to Recovery provides cancer patients with free transportation to and from their treatments. That free transportation comes from volunteers who donate their time, vehicles, and driving to transport these patients to their appointments. Bill Junge and Ana Boote are part of this organization and are joining us today to discuss this incredible service opportunity.
The Future of Football (0:52:50)
As COVID carries on, different aspects of the life we knew before the pandemic also continue to adapt. One thing that is going to look a lot different this fall is football. Americans love football. It generates billions of dollars a year. But how will it be affected this year? Football fans are curious, and even a little anxious, about what’s in store for the sport this coming season. To help us better understand the future of pro football, we’ve invited the director of archives and football information for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Jon Kendle, to share the changes we’ll see this year and how they will affect the future of the sport.
Improving Memory (1:07:43)
If anyone’s ever told you, you’d forget your head if it wasn’t attached to your neck—you’re not alone. I feel like I am always forgetting things. I’ll set something down and then two minutes later I’ll have no idea where it went. While it might seem like your memory is a lost cause—memory is actually something you can train and improve. Here to show us how, is memory expert Ron White.
Working Moms (1:21:49)
For so many parents, one of the most difficult parts of life has been finding a balance between work and home life. (possibly share a related anecdote?) But for the moms out there, this problem can be even more difficult because of the bias against working mothers in many organizations. So, in honor of Mother’s Day this Sunday, we’re joined by Mary Beth Ferrante, who is the CEO of WRK/360, an advocate for inclusive workplaces for parents, and a mother of 2 herself. She’s here to help us manage being a working mother.
