Behavior analysis has used within groups design as the means for establishing functional relations and communicating scientific findings in the lab and journals. Another popular method for analyzing behavior is between groups design. The two different approaches are sometimes described as polar opposites yet each can complement one another. The different purposes and limits of each method are described and contrasted.
