Dave “Chook” Henwood is one of New Zealand’s most decorated and respected police officers.
Chook retired after 47 years in South Auckland as a Detective Sergeant with three silver merit awards. He now has a book out all about his remarkable life and career called “Unmasking Monsters.”
In this conversation, Chook opens up about some of the significant cases he worked on, including his interactions with two of New Zealand’s most evil men- Joseph Thompson and Malcom Rewa. And why he always thought Teina Pora was an innocent man.
Then we get into your questions submitted on IG: Should police be armed, his thoughts on youth crime and how to fix it, thoughts for young Kiwis thinking about joining the police, one tip for parents to keep their kids safe and so much more.
