Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSWe all know we are living in troubling times. We may not be able to change the world, but in his latest book, End Anxiety! Proven Benefits of the Transcendental Meditation® Program, Jim shows us how we can help ourselves. The problem is real and Jim offers an instant and lasting solution.
Jim was there in the mid-sixties when we were undergoing so much change as a society and there was a real surge in the TM movement. In this episode, Jim shares what TM is (and isn’t), more about how it started and what it’s like to look back and see how far TM has come.
Jim and I talk about how TM can help us in our day to day lives to reduce/eliminate feelings such as fear, anxiety, stress and depression. There is a lot of data showing the benefits of TM and Jim and I talk through this to really illustrate how TM helps those who practice it. By eliminating these lower emotions, we are able to free up space to be more creative and expansive in our lives.
I was not familiar with TM prior to this interview and I purposefully went into this interview without doing any research so I could approach our conversation with a true beginner’s mind. After this interview, you will have more of an understanding of what Transcendental Meditation is, how it can benefit you in your own life and how you can get started. There is so much packed in this interview you will definitely not want to miss it!

More about End Anxiety! Proven Benefits of the Transcendental Meditation® Program: These days current events are fraught with political animosity, global pandemic, warfare, gun violence, and economic insecurity. So it is with good reason that anxiety levels have peaked and the affliction has extended to almost every segment of society—whether they like to admit it or not. We may not be able to change the world but End Anxiety!: Proven Benefits of the Transcendental Meditation® Program, by James Meade, PhD shows us how we can help ourselves. The problem is real, so what can we do about it? In End Anxiety!, James Meade offers an instant and lasting solution—the Transcendental Meditation® program, as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This may at first seem like a novel approach to the issue, but studies on the effects of Transcendental Meditation® on the mental states of its practitioners have been ongoing for over fifty years and the findings are conclusive: Transcendental Meditation can have a real and powerful positive impact on our mental health, especially in terms of mitigating anxiety, stress, and depression. More about James Meade: James G. Meade, Ph.D., sometimes considers himself to be like Henry David Thoreau’s “The Artist of Kouroo,” who labored outside of any constraints of time and in the words of the famed transcendentalist philosopher, “made a new system in making a staff.” For Meade, now 77, the “staff” is this book. Distinction is nothing new to him. He received his Ph.D. in English from Northwestern University, graduating, as his dissertation director phrased it, “With Distinguished Commendation.” As an undergraduate he was Phi Beta Kapa from “Little Ivy” Hamilton
College where he received the coveted Frank H. Ristine Prize Scholarship to the top student in the popular and highly competitive Department of English. He was commended by the famed Woodrow Wilson Foundation and by the Danforth Foundation, eventually attending graduate school on a full, three-year National Defense and Education Act fellowship. A Founding Professor of Literature at Maharishi International University, he taught full-time at the college for its first two years and in fact taught the very first course there. Inspired by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, he left academe and began his journey into writing in the mid-1970s, with two years invested in a Transcendental Meditation® book, as yet unpublished. Reluctant to write about anything else, he allowed the exigencies of surviving on the planet to draw him into teaching writing (Harvard, Boston University, Cape Cod Community College, Fisher Junior College, the University of Maryland) and into working as a writer in industry (two years with then thriving but now defunct Digital Equipment Corporation) and then into many years as a business
writing consultant with a client list that included Lee Enterprises, Voicemail International, Lotus Development Corporation, and the Society for Human Resource Management.
In 1988 he began assembling books for the emerging computer book industry and, ever the Artist of Kouroo, lived in the world of strict editorial directives, unforgiving formulas, and unyielding deadlines. He wrote the first book on PowerPoint (Using PowerPoint, which sold 300,000 copies) and a barrage of computer “bibles” and “user” guides and, on occasion, “For Dummies” books while also pouring out columns and feature stories and Dot-Com contributions culminating in his The Human Resources Software Handbook with the august John Wiley Publishing in New York.
Ever focused on his TM® intentions, he co-wrote The Answer to Cancer with prominent Ayurvedic experts Dr. Hari Sharma and Dr. Rama Kant Mishra (revered expert in his only published work) while his wife and his inner voice kept telling him, “Write your own books about TM®.” With Dr. Sharma he wrote a breakthrough book on genetics, Dynamic DNA. Meanwhile he put to use his certification as a TM® teacher, together with his wife teaching thousands of people how to meditate while also offering weekly advanced lectures that evolved into chapters in the book he was fashioning. While teaching in many parts of the U.S., including even Alaska and Hawaii, he focused mainly in Southern California. Overseas he taught in Tanzania, Hungary, Nepal, Hong Kong, S. Korea, and Jamaica. All that intense and demanding preparation had a single focus and comes to realization now with this, his artist of Kouroo staff, End Anxiety! Proven Benefits of the Transcendental Meditation® Program. You can connect with Jim at his website jamesgmeade.com.

Brooke Siem was among the first generation of minors to be prescribed antidepressants. Initially diagnosed and treated in the wake of her father’s sudden death, this psychiatric intervention sent a message that something was pathologically wrong with her and that the only “fix” was medication. As a teenager, she stepped into the hazy world of antidepressants just at the time when she was forming the foundation of her identity. For the following fifteen years, every situation she faced was seen through the lens of brokenness.

Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSA decade and a half later, still on the same cocktail of drugs, Brooke found herself hanging halfway out her Manhattan high-rise window, calculating the time it would take to hit the ground. As she looked for breaks in the pedestrian traffic patterns, a thought dawned on her: “I’ve spent half my life—and my entire adult life—on antidepressants. Who might I be without them?”
Unfurled against a global backdrop, May Cause Side Effects is the gripping story of what happened when, after fifteen years and 32,760 pills, Brooke was faced with a profound choice that plunged her into a year of excruciating antidepressant withdrawal and forced her to rebuild her entire life.
In this episode, Brooke shares her story of getting off antidepressants, what she learned along the way and how she was able to come out on the other side with a new story for herself. This book is an illuminating memoir for those who take, prescribe, or are considering psychiatric drugs, May Cause Side Effects is an honest reminder that the road to true happiness is not mapped on a prescription pad. Instead, Brooke’s story reveals the messy reality of how healing begins at the bottomless depth of our suffering, in the deep self-work that pushes us to the edges of who we are.
Watch the interview with Brooke here:
More About Brooke Siem: Brooke Siem is a writer, speaker, and advocate for the practice of safe de-prescribing for psychiatric drugs. Her debut memoir on antidepressant withdrawal, May Cause Side Effects is the long version of work that has appeared in the Washington Post, Psychology Today, and more. Her newsletter, “Happiness is a Skill”, is devoted to antidepressant withdrawal education, healing from depression, and the skill of happiness.
In addition to Brooke’s work in the world of mental health, she is an award-winning chef with over fifteen years in the industry. She co-founded New York City’s Prohibition Bakery in 2011, was named as one of Zagat’s 30 Under 30 in 2014, and was crowned a Food Network “Chopped” Champion in 2017. Though Prohibition Bakery is now closed, Brooke continues to work as a private chef for elite performers and conducts research & development for CPG startups.
When she’s not writing or cooking, she can be found in Nevada, lounging in the desert sun with her rescue mutt, Bellaroo. You can connect with Brooke at her website https://www.brookesiem.com/ and get your copy of May Cause Side Effects on Amazon and wherever books are sold.

As the title implies, I got married this week! It’s been quite a journey for me and in this episode, I share what I learned along the way. Many, many years of failed relationships and feeling like I could never have the relationship I wanted led to years and years of negative stories in my head. I spent a lot of time working on myself to change those stories and get to where I am today.

In fact, you might even call it cliche (defined as: a trite, stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse). But cliches are cliche for a reason and there is truth to them even if they have lost their originality and impact from overuse.

Our pets offer amazing insights into ourselves, the world and life in general…..if we take the time to observe and see what they have to offer us! In this episode, I’m excited to have back one of my favorite guests, Dr. Erhard Vogel. Erhard and I are both animal lovers and in this episode, we touch on many different aspects of our pets and what they can teach us about life.

Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSErhard and I talk about our dogs, the lessons they teach us, the emotions our pets experience and so much more. I share some examples of what my own dog has taught me about happiness, forgiveness and letting things go. One of my favorite examples from my dog is that I take my dog for a walk every morning. One thing I do when we wake up is I tell him how much of an amazing day we are going to have and I review all the good things we are going to do for the day, or that he gets to eat, etc. That really helped me as I started looking at my own days and being more intentional with my mornings!
We also touch on dreams in this episode from a dog and human perspective. I share one of the recurring dreams I had for 20+ years and how I was finally able to understand what it meant and how running from it was more painful than just facing it. If you are an animal lover or considering getting a pet, you are really going to love this episode and all the insight it has to offer!

Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSJoining me today is Caitlin Billings, author of the book In Our Blood. Caitlin thought she could neatly walk away from her past, until a hold-up at gunpoint breaks her carefully balanced world apart. Suddenly, Caitlin is trapped by frightening mental health issues while raising two young children. Part coming-of-age, part reckoning of motherhood, In Our Blood is a therapist’s honest account of professional and personal struggles and an intergenerational story of acceptance, self-love and fluidity.
In this episode, Caitlin and I talk about perfectionism, trauma and the path to healing. Caitlin shares her journey and I also touch on some of the things I have been through. We talk about the impact stories have on our path to healing, why we don’t have to feel the need to do it all and how we can build a practice of realistic skills to move towards self-acceptance.
You can watch the interview with Caitlin here:
More about the book, In Our Blood: From the author, Caitlin Billings “In Our Blood has been described as “raw, real, and naked before the world”. I’m a mother and a helping professional, two identities with pressure to be perfect, competent, and self-sacrificing. I’m pushing back and saying nope, that’s not real life. I’m sharing my personal account of understanding the meaning of radical acceptance not from an intellectual or spiritual practice perspective, but from the mouth of a messy, complicated survivor of the human experience.”
More about Caitlin Billings: Caitlin Billings lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her family. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has a thriving therapy practice specializing in complex trauma. She is working on her second book. Jerry Brook is the only author who did not write a book. After yet another failed relationship, he had finally decided that it was time to throw in the towel. He had failed again and not just subtly, but miserably.
Subscribe with your favorite podcast player
Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSAfter this failed relationship, Jerry threw himself into his work and began studying Artificial Intelligence. The question he had to ask was, “What is intelligence and what does it mean to be intelligent?” The short answer is decision making. That only led him to then ask, “What is the correct way to make decisions?” It was during learning about decision making that he had an epiphany, an aha moment.
Jerry discovered he was making bad decisions in his relationships based on incorrect information. He had asked for, and gotten advice from, family and friends alike. Jerry would even go as far as to read magazine articles from supposed experts on the topic. There is an old saying in the world of computers, “Garbage in, Garbage out” meaning if you start with, or input, unusable information, the computer will return unusable information. What’s more, he realized that was undoubtedly the same thing that his relationship partners were doing as well.
Jerry’s book, Good Together: A Journey Through Relationships, is a collection of the notes that he made to himself: what he did, what he didn’t do, and what he could have done better. Jerry also created an app, The Good Together Game, as an easy, actionable, way for people to forge better bonds and have better relationships.
Jerry and I cover so much in this interview! We talk about how to make better relationship decisions, why you need to define your needs vs. wants (which lead to your expectations), what a healthy relationship is (and isn’t) and how day-to-day interactions impact our relationships. Jerry explains why conventionial wisdom (or wis-dumb as he calls it) is flat out wrong and how you can start doing differently instead. There is life changing information awaiting you in this episode and Jerry explains it in such a clear and easy way. If you are looking to improve your romantic, business or personal relationships, do not miss this episode!
You can watch the interview with Jerry here:
More About Jerry Brook: Speaker and Author Jerry Brook, the Good Together Guru, fuses his relationship experience with a background in analytics to help others maintain better relationships. As an Industrial Computer Controls Specialist, Jerry’s experience in problem solving and analytical thinking inspired him to look at relationships in a new and unique way. In addition, he also draws on his own personal relationships to offer practical, intelligent, and sometimes funny relationship stories and advice.
Jerry chronicled his personal relationship failures, what he did, why he did it, and what he could have done differently, in his book, Good Together: A Journey Through Relationships. One of the more profound things that he discovered is that the prevailing relationship information, advice, and conventional wisdom, is not simply inaccurate, in some instances it can be harmful to the users.
He is the one and only Relationship Coach who is anti-conventional wis-dumb, and who refrains from giving relationship advice. Instead, he focuses on the practical, not the fanciful. He believes in teaching others about relationships, not telling them about relationships. He shows you the why and how, but he does not tell you the what. If you know the why and the how you can determine the what. It is your relationship to define, not his to dictate.
He is so serious about helping people with finding, building, and maintaining healthy relationships that he created The Good Together Game app, a game with a purpose. The Good Together Game app removes much of the stresses associated with forging better relationship bonds.
Jerry currently lives in Houston, Texas. You can download The Good Together Game App, get your copy of Good Together: A Journey Through Relationships and connect with Jerry at his website https://www.goodtogether.com/.

The post Conventional Relationship Wisdom is Wrong! Learn the Secrets to Better Relationship Decisions with Jerry Brook appeared first on WebTalkRadio.net.
I say it each week on the show, how when we learn how to change our thoughts, we can change our lives. Until we are willing to look at how we are thinking about things, our lives tend to just stay on autopilot. Experiencing the same unhappy results day after day and wondering why we can’t seem to have anything different.
Subscribe with your favorite podcast player
Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSThe way we put ourselves back in the driver’s seat of our life is to start taking control of how we are thinking about things. Believe it or not, we don’t have to believe everything we think and every thought we think isn’t true! I know that is hard to believe, but it is actually true. In this episode, I share some recent examples of how to focus on getting what I wanted and the amazing results I got in a short amount of time. I also share the next steps after getting what you want and how you can disarm those thoughts in your head that want to tell you you can’t keep what you got, you’re not good enough for it, etc.
This episode is a real life look at choosing to focus on a preferred reality, some simple steps of how you can do that and then how to retrain your mind to keep what you wanted so you can thrive in that space. My intention with this episode is for you to feel empowered in your new reality and be able to enjoy your life to the fullest!

Most thoughtful people have questions like: what is the nature of reality? Why is there evil? Unfortunately, many of these people believe you have to have “blind faith” or trust some weird mystical approach in order to explore these questions from a religious perspective. My guest this week is Arthur Yavelberg, author of the book A Theology For The Rest Of Us and he offers a different view on these questions. In Arthur’s book and this conversation, he shows that is not the case; that religious responses to spiritual questions can be quite rational and even empowering.

Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSArthur has said he has thought about these issues for many years and he has come to realize that there are many religious traditions that can offer guidance in ways that do not require people to surrender their sense of reason. His motivation was to share this process so that people can use it to come to their own conclusions. A Theology For The Rest Of Us challenges people to be independent: to explore the various teachings but not necessarily to commit to any one of them.
In this episode, Arthur shares his journey of studying religion and spirituality and we touch on a wide range of subjects from free will, to the difference between beliefs in the East & West, how to be independent in your thinking without having to commit to just “one way” of doing things.
I absolutely loved Arthur’s book and as I mentioned in this episode, it helped me understand where I could go next spiritually after being turned off by religion for so many years.
This interview is not telling you what to believe, in fact it is quite the opposite. It is a discussion on how to look at things like spirituality, religion, divine intelligence in a different light so you can take what works for you and leave the rest. This is a very thought provoking and honest discussion on some big topics, don’t miss it!
You can watch this interview with Arthur here:
More about the book, A Theology For The Rest of Us: If God exists and is good, why is there evil? Avoiding such questions underlies the spiritual emptiness and anxiety in today’s world. A Theology for the Rest of Us explores how to approach the divine through Eastern and Western religious traditions without dogma, challenging readers to “be you lamps unto yourselves.”
In a time of internecine wars and all kinds of abuse of authority and trust, too many good, thoughtful people are “voting with their feet” and turning away from organized religion. Popular “spirituality”-a sort of mysticism-lite articulated in memes-is often unsatisfying as well.
A Theology For The Rest Of Us is a straightforward approach to the fundamental questions of religion and philosophy: Does God exist? Is there free will? What is ‘evil’? And many more questions many seekers ask. This book draws on the traditions of the East as well as the West-Taoism, Buddhism and Hinduism in addition to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam-to see what can make sense in today’s world. Whether exploring the implications of 17th century Enlightenment philosophers, quantum physics, or the insights of writers such as Dostoyevsky and Alan Watts, the reader is offered a rational, coherent approach that can provide understanding and a basis for hope in a world where the spirit has been all but decimated by doubt and worse.
Most important, the reader is encouraged to sift through these sources and choose what resonates and what does not. As the Buddha taught so many years ago, the Prime Directive is “Be ye lamps unto yourselves.” A Theology For The Rest Of Us makes teachings accessible to those who have already begun their spiritual journeys, validating their questions and showing that reasonable answers are available.
More about Arthur Yavelberg: Formally, Arthur Yavelberg has two Masters Degrees: one in Jewish philosophy from the Jewish Theological Seminary and one in educational administration from Northeastern Illinois University. Much more important, however, is that he has close to 40 years experience of making spiritual and historical concepts accessible to people of all ages in many different settings. These years culminated with the opportunity to teach in an international day school in Singapore. That allowed Arthur to travel throughout Asia and explore questions of spirituality with a wide variety of people. As a result, he is uniquely qualified to present these issues in ways that individuals can understand and about which they can make decisions for themselves. You can connect and ask questions with Arthur and other seekers in his Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/643076020132605. You can also email Arthur directly at [email protected] with your questions and comments. You can find A Theology For The Rest Of Us on Amazon https://amzn.to/3KlEhOV and wherever books are sold.

The post Using Independent Thinking Without Surrendering Your Sense of Reason appeared first on WebTalkRadio.net.
This week I’m excited to welcome Jan Day to the podcast. Jan is the author of the book Living Tantra – A Journey Into Sex, Spirit & Relationship. In this episode Jan and I discuss what Living Tantra is and isn’t, some misconceptions about Living Tantra and what it means in modern day life. We talk about one of my favorite phrases: getting comfortable with being uncomfortable and discomfort plays into our experiences.
Subscribe with your favorite podcast player
Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSWe also talk about what it means to move slowly, about safety and how both of these can be so valuable in our lives. I share some of my favorite exercises from Jan’s book (finding our exits and seeing the Buddha’s in disguise) and Jan shares her’s as well.
If you are looking for a practical lifestyle approach to healing, interacting with the world and living your daily life, you will not want to miss this episode!
More about Living Tantra: The principles of Living Tantra are to use all experiences to learn and become more conscious of ourselves and the world around us, and to develop greater compassion for ourselves, each other and the world. Tantra is ‘the weaving together of all that is” and it does not seek to separate sexuality and spirituality. Sexuality is fertile ground for self-knowledge and for integrating everyday life with spiritual life. The book introduces practices and principles that support living this in everyday life, as well as stories from Jan’s own journey and participant experiences from the workshops.
More about Jan Day: Jan Day is a Living Tantra teacher, relationship expert and psycho-spiritual teacher. She has been teaching and leading workshops in Europe and Hawaii since 1999. She brings extraordinary warmth and compassion to her work in groups, with individuals and with couples focussing on intimacy, sexuality, self-love and growing consciousness. She creates a learning environment where people can get a vital education in communicating effectively, creating authentic intimate long-lasting relationships, understanding themselves and their sexual nature and how to find a warm hearted and healthy expression of their sensual nature.
Jan Day brings to her teaching a deep understanding and a warm appreciation for people’s need to find and to trust their own unique journeys into being. Jan’s life and work have been influenced by both Eastern and Western spiritual teachers. She was a sanyassin of Osho for 15 years. Over a period of 20 years Jan trained and then taught with Alan Lowen, founder of _The Art of Being®. The Living Tantra series of workshops that she offers is based on the Body, Heart & Soul®_ series created by Alan.
She has also been influenced by and/or worked with Jack Kornfield, David Deida, Ron Kurtz, Ken Wilber, Genpo Roshi, Thomas Hübl and Ammachi. Jan now lives in England with her husband Frieder, who co-leads sections of the workshops and brings his own magic. You can reach Jan and find more about her workshops at her website: www.janday.com. How would you define universal forces? Do you believe they are in play and we just can’t see them? How do you explain those nudges you get to do something, which make no sense at the time, only to find out later there was a specific reason or purpose for what that nudge pulled you to do? This is a fascinating topic for sure!

Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSIn this episode, Dr. Erhard Vogel joins the show to talk about Universal Forces Working in Our Favor. Erhard shares an amazing story about a sapphire necklace he bought 40 years ago for his now daughter-in-law (who wasn’t even born yet when he bought it). At the time Erhard bought the necklace, he was traveling the world with very little money and purchasing this necklace was completely out of character for him and made no sense given his circumstances. Yet something compelled him to do it and he listened.
In this episode we discuss universal forces in detail, how we can tune in and participate with these universal forces working on our behalf and how we can tell when we get a “signal” from these forces. We also touch on instances where we are intentional about what we want and forces work in our favor as well as where we are nudged or called to do something (that makes no sense at the time) and we see later the impact that calling had.
If you want to hear more about Erhard’s remarkable story of the sapphire necklace and how you can begin to recognize the signals in your life, don’t miss this episode. This is a very extraordinary interview and I know you will love this conversation!
