Dad, How Do I? with Rob Kenney

Listen Later

Rob Kenney is known as the “Internet Dad” (a Google search of that term immediately brings up his name). But he’s also a self-described introvert who, through genuine concern for others, unexpectedly achieved digital fame during the pandemic. His channel “Dad, How do I” has more than 4 million subscribers, drawn by his straightforward tips and sincere encouragement.

In this episode of the Dad Edge podcast, Larry Hagner welcomes the Rob Kenney where they had a fun conversation about being a dad. They discuss various topics such as home repairs, parenting challenges, and the concept behind the YouTube channel "Dad, How Do I?". Rob also shares a funny idea his wife had about a jar for every time someone asks "Mom, do you know where’s my…" Overall, it's an entertaining and relatable discussion about fatherhood.

Rob Kenney's traumatic childhood had a profound impact on his life, particularly in his quest for perfection. At a young age of 14 and a half, Rob experienced the separation of his parents, which led to him moving in with his older brother and his wife. This transition was not easy for Rob, as he felt the weight of living up to unrealistic expectations. He believed that if he could be perfect, he could prevent such a traumatic event from happening again.

The theme of traumatic childhood and striving for perfection is a common struggle for many individuals who have experienced similar hardships. Trauma can shape one's perception of themselves and their place in the world, leading to a constant need to prove their worth and avoid further pain. The desire for perfection becomes a defense mechanism, a way to control their environment and prevent future trauma.

However, it is important to recognize that striving for perfection is an unattainable goal. Nobody is perfect, and the pressure to be flawless can be detrimental to one's mental health and overall well-being. Rob's story serves as a reminder that it is crucial to seek support and healing instead of trying to meet unrealistic expectations.
