  • S3:E9 - Christmas With the Superheroes No. 1-2 (1988-1989)
This time on the Couch: Mike and James read DC's Christmas with the Super-Heroes no. 1 and 2, a mix of uplifting seasonal tales and a weirdly disproportionate amount of death. Listen along as the world's greatest super-heroes prove that they're no better suited for the job than anyone else as they absent-mindedly fumble every aspect of the holiday spirit: Green Lantern cracks his skull in the shower, Deadman uses his powers to sexually assault a stranger's wife, Green Arrow beefs with an android, and Batman forgets to stop crime because he's been up all night singing Christmas carols. Tis the season for mediocrity!

  • S3:E8 - Exciting Comics No. 35 (1944)
This time on the Couch: Mike and James do their part for the war effort by reading 1944's Exciting Comics no. 35! Whether you're a grown man with undefined superpowers like the Black Terror or just a little boy who's been coerced into risking his life for complex geopolitical reasons like his child sidekick Kid Terror, one thing's for certain: Nazis are literally fucking everywhere you look. Plus the Swedes share questionable guerrilla war tactics. Listen as the guys draw absolutely no parallels to modern-day politics in an episode to Trump all others!

  • S3:E7 - Power Pack No. 19 (1986)
This time on the Couch: Mike and James celebrate Thanksgiving with the Power Pack, the comic book team that puts the "super" in "unsupervised children." Power Pack no. 19 tells the story of a five-year-old girl ruining a parade and almost getting herself killed in the process because literally no adults are actively participating in her life, and Mike is the only person bothered by any of this. Plus, Wolverine and Kitty Pryde show up for some reason. And Beta Ray Bill is there, too. And Cloak and Dagger. And Franklin Richards. And the Morlocks. Plus some kind of space pony. And also some alien lizard people, because maybe Marvel artists in the 80s were being paid by the headcount. It's a horn of plenty of characters you may or may not give a shit about and they're all coming to the home of some latchkey children for Turkey Day, and that's not weird at all!

  • S3:E6 - The Brave and the Bold No. 85 (1969)
This time on the Couch: While you're standing in line to cast your write-in vote for Luthor/Grodd '16, you can listen to this election episode to distract you from the disappointment in your non-fictional presidential options. In The Brave and the Bold no. 85, Batman and Green Arrow attempt to uncover the political motivations behind the assassination attempt on the newly elected Senator Cathcart and break literally dozens of laws themselves in the process. Plus, Mike and James pit fictional leaders against our real-life candidates to try and discern which is the least terrible. Cast YOUR ballot... for entertainment!

  • S3:E5 - Tales From the Crypt No. 35 (1953)
This time on the Couch: Are you ready for spine-tingling terror? Great! Well, after you're done with that, come back here and listen to this special bonus Halloween episode of Darkseid's Couch! Mike and James read Tales from the Crypt no. 35 and discuss vampire physiology, 90s angst rock radio stations, and speculate on what the Tinder for hot, young creatures of the night must be like. Find lonely vampires in your neighborhood looking to drink blood TONIGHT!!! Plus the guys tackle the age-old question; Polyamory or voodoo: Which unconventional approach should you use to trick your partner into doing what you want? Learn to live your best life this Halloween with the only comic book podcast that asks the real questions!

  • S3:E4 - Morbius: The Living Vampire No. 2 (1992)
This time on the Couch: If you've ever wondered exactly how many prostitutes it takes to make an edgy 90s comic, Mike and James have the answer as they dive into Morbius: The Living Vampire no. 2 for the first episode of their Halloween doubleheader. Plus, the definitive debate on Morbius' aesthetic choices: Is he a badass, fanged terror of the night cloaked in black to represent his struggle with unanswerable existential questions, or just a whiny, gimped-out Nine Inch Nails fan who accidentally gave himself neurological problems because he's not a very good scientist? Luckily Peter Parker shows up to make sure readers care enough to find out. All that and the answer to where Morbius keeps his wallet. SPOILER ALERT: It's asinine!

  • S3:E3 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures No. 40 (1992)
This time on the Couch: In celebration of Columbus Day, Mike and James pretend to discover something people already knew about and expect the public to admire them for it. Specifically, it's 1992's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures no. 40, wherein the turtles fall back in time via a legendary plot contrivance and Donetello gets a lecture about cultural imperialism from a terrifying earth spirit while Splinter pretends he's a pacifist despite commanding a vigilante band of ultraviolent hormonal teenagers. Plus, fun with propaganda cartoons, and how much poo is in the turtles' DNA? Come along and discover a new world... of friendship!

  • S3:E2 - OMAC No. 6 (1975)

This time on the Couch: Mike and James dig deep into the Kirby well and fish out the underrated One-Man Army Corps himself, OMAC! That's right, OMAC: The cloud-computing, distopian superhero with the business-friendly mohawk who'll punch a hole in a train just to see where it's a-goin'. In the mid-70s Jack Kirby was frustrated with the Big Two's lack of vision, repeated cancellations of his projects, and general unwillingness to pay out the fat stacks of paper, but still managed to pump out a new and surprisingly prescient character in OMAC, the exciting new find of 1975! ...which was cancelled after 8 issues. Cough. Join the guys as they scorn a nation of unappreciative comic book readers for letting shit like that happen and try to figure out what exactly should be the age cutoff for an illegal body-swapping network. Plus, can they discuss Kirby at length without calling Stan Lee out for being a credit-stealing fraud? Well, no. No, they definitely can't do that and you were foolish to think otherwise.

  • S3:E1 - Brute Force No. 1 (1990)
This time on the Couch: If there's anything more 90s than a kangaroo that listens to hip hip, it's a kangaroo that listens to hip hop while protecting the environment. In 1990, Marvel threw Captain Planet, The Toxic Avenger, Transformers, G.I. Joe, ham-fisted activism, and ponytails into a blender and hit purée until any artistic merit had been spread so thin even the most discerning palate couldn't identify it. Mike and James throw down a tall glass of the resulting Brute Force, the Frankencomic our environment deserves!

  • S2:E10 - Batman: The Jiro Kuwata Batmanga No. 16-19 (1966)
This time on the Couch: Mike and James continue their trip through Batman history in their 20th episode. In 1966, Japanese comic book creator Jiro Kuwata got the green light to publish his own series of bizarre Batman manga adventures. His approach? To hell with context or character development or really anything that explains what's going on at any given moment and just deliver a pure dose of crystallized Silver Age madness through a Japanese filter. Are the results batshit insane (in a good way) or just batshit insane (in a bad way)? And is photophysics an actual scientific branch? Find out the answer to only one of these questions as the guys celebrate putting 20 consecutive ass grooves into the Couch. That's as many as two tens!
