  • How Your Brain Tells You Which Way To Lean For A Kiss
Love really is a drug! In fact, being in love is not unlike being addicted to heroin.
    [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/07/23104718/SabinaBrennan_2307.mp3"][/audio]
We may think that love is controlled by our heart, our soul and even below our belts but the reality it is our brain who is really in charge.
From making us blind, giving us butterflies and unable to eat, hormones play a massive part in those feelings we associate with falling in love.
Dr Sabina Brennan, neuroscientist and host of the Super Brain podcast, joined Dermot and Dave to explain how the brain dictates everything from who wants to cuddle after sex (and who doesn’t), how genes might make us more likely to have a one night stand and how we can tell a lot about which way you lean in for a kiss.

  • The 'Greatest Irishman' Who Brought A Donkey To Court
Have you ever heard of 'Humanity Dick'?
    [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/07/22131311/PeterPhillips_2207.mp3"][/audio]
Author and creator of TedFest, Peter Phillips, says he's the greatest ever Irishman. 'Humanity Dick' is the name given to Richard Martin, an 19th Century MP for Galway in Westminster and the man behind animal rights.
Not only did he co-found what is now the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, but most, if not all animal rights laws can be traced back to the Connemara man.
Now, TedFest founder Peter Phillips has put pen to paper to tell the incredible story of 'Humanity Dick'.
Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Peter explained how he once brought a donkey to court as a witness and why July 22nd should be celebrated as 'Martin's Day'.

‘Humanity Dick – Animal Rights Pioneer and Feared Duelist’ is available from Amazon and in all good bookshops now.

  • Coffee, Chats And Cake: Inside Limerick's Death Café
Whether it's because of fear, or because it seems too sad, most people don't like to speak about death. But what if there was a space where you could speak openly about the realities of it, and you were guaranteed cake?
    [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/07/21130128/SSTSTM_21071.mp3"][/audio]
Having cake is the one rule of the Death Café which was established to allow people to come together and speak about passing away without fear of making people feel uncomfortable or being seen as being morbid.
The Death Café has been running across the world for a number of years now, and sees people getting together to chat about everything from the emotional and physical side of dying to who would delete your browser history. The idea is to take away the reluctance we all have to speak about our own mortality.
Limerick is one of the locations where Death Café's have been set up, and Dermot and Dave met Jennifer Stritch, who is one of the people involved.
She explained how the events run, the type of people who attend (including a couple on a first date!), and why cake is so important.
