  • Check Out The New Dating Terms You Need To Be Weary Of In 2020
Experts reveal the year ahead to be full of "glamboozling", "caspering" and more
The dating game is a minefield - there's no doubt about it, but it does throw up some wonderful phrases every now and again.
Most of us are familiar with terms like "breadcrumbing", "ghosting" and "catfishing", but relationship experts over at popular dating site Plenty Of Fish have introduced some new ones to keep us on our love-seeking toes in 2020.
Dermot and Dave producer Maria Devereux guides us through these gems:
Glamboozling - This is where you get your glad rags on and are looking hot as f**k, only to be stood up. Glam + bamboozled.

Caspering - The act of "ghosting" is where someone ends a personal relationship with someone by suddenly and unexplainedly withdrawing from all communication. But what if the person breaks it to you nicely before they vanish? Well then they're a friendly ghoster - like Casper.

Flashpanning - We all know the honeymoon period is the holy grail of any relationship, but when the magic starts to fade, a flashpanner will drop you like a hot snot. A fair-weather lover if you will.

Exoskeleton-ing - If a friend of your ex or one of your friend's exes gets in touch with you, then you've be exoskeletoned!

Yellow-carding - This is where a partner hasn't done enough to get their marching orders, yet they're in the bad books. A little reminder for them to shape up or else risk getting a red.
All this in the middle of cuffing season?? Dating is a cruel, cruel beast.

  • Vera Twomey Hugely Disappointed In The Medical Cannabis Access Programme
"It is entirely because of the inaction of the Department of Health"
Over the past couple of years, Cork mum-of-four Vera Twomey has been campaigning for the right to access medicinal cannabis for her daughter Ava.
Ava was born with a rare form of epilepsy known as Dravet Syndrome, which at one point caused her to suffer 16 seizures in 36 hours.
Back in 2017, Vera won the right for Ava to use Bedrocan products (which produce standardised medicinal cannabis flos) to stabilise her condition and live a much more pain-free life. The only catch is that they must travel to the Netherlands every 12 weeks to get them.
Earlier this year, Minister for Health Simon Harris signed a legislation which has allowed for the operation of the Medical Cannabis Access Programme; a programme that now facilitates access to cannabis-based products for medical use in line with legislation.
This was amazing new for Ava and her family, until they realised Bedrocan was not included on the list.
Aurora High CBD Oil Drops and CannEpil are the names of the the two new products that have been approved and registered for use in Ireland under the programme. Vera must still make her trips to the Netherlands.
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, Vera states that the lack of accessibility is; "entirely because of the inaction of the Department of Health".
Vera continues by saying that even if Ava was prescribed either of the two new CBD-based medications, she fears the change could have a negative effect seeing as her daughter is doing so "tremendously well" with the Bedrocan.
Surely in today's day and age, you'd think a supplier for the Bedrocan could be sourced, but this is what Vera was told by the powers that be; "no entity in Ireland could provide that service". Unbelievable!

  • Could New Gambling Laws Be The Last Call For Bingo Loco?
Not if Andrew Stanley has his way
As if the government isn't happy enough with making a pig's ear of everything else in this country, they are now proposing new gambling laws that will have a detrimental effect on bingo halls across Ireland.
The legislation, which will see any prize money reduced to 50% of a bingo hall's taking on the night, is due to come before the Dáíl on Wednesday.
Seeing as our politicians are gone bingo-loco, Dermot and Dave wanted to find out if the worldwide phenomenon bingo rave Bingo Loco would be safe during these crazy times.
The lads chat to Bingo Loco's most revered announcer, comedian Andrew Stanley about this cultural and social upheaval.
Here's a little taster of what they do:
Today FM News' Ben Finnegan then supplies the reaction from 'Save Our Bingo' protestors outside Leinster House.

  • 'Digital Retox': The Secret To Digital Detoxing
Carrie Budds teaches us how to control our digital habits
Ok...I'm gonna put down my phone right now, hold my hand up and admit that I'm addicted to my devices. I cannot help scrolling through my social media apps or messaging on WhatsApp at an alarming rate for hours each day.
If you're like me (which I'm sure you are), then Digital Wellness Consultant Carrie Budds has the know-how to help your digital detox via a digital retox.
Speaking on Dermot and Dave's #MindYourselfNow Carrie explains why the reintroduction of things you've detoxed from are "more important" than giving them up in the first place.
For example, if you have ever given up something for Lent, or let's say booze for 'Sober October', you tend to go back on it harder than ever as a kind of reward to yourself for being so good.
Carrie discusses the ways in which we can "offload" the bigger issues first by making a plan to identify the key areas that take up most time, yet how we need to be aware that they may creep back in - and this is where the retox training comes to the fore.
It may take the unfollowing of certain pages and people, or coming offline one day a week, but the results will be worth it.
You can check out her website quokkawellness.com for more information and to obtain an email sequence to help with the digital offloading.

"We're very cute. We make it look like we work really, really hard but we do feck all", he laughs, before revealing his secret - "we work 26 weeks and we take 26 weeks off". And although that seems like the perfect balance, we're sure he's just being humble.
    When asked how he has become so successful, he shares some very important tips; guidelines that work across the board;
"some of it is accidental and some of it you work really hard for. Sometimes ya have to stop looking for it. Take a break and it'll find you".
He continues by saying; "don't write anything off...don't look behind ya...and don't stop".
The lads also chat about how the amazing observational skills of an Irish doctor saved Brendan's life last year, and why his family are all so golf-mad.

  • Blindboy: New Book, Podcasting & Russian Royalty With Limerick Accents
The Rubberbandits are back with new music and other projects in 2020
Blindboy Boatclub is a man of many talents - comedian, musician, satirist, performance artist, writer, activist, podcaster...to name a few.
His new book Boulevard Wren and Other Stories is the incredible follow-up to the bestselling Gospel According to Blindboy, and a warped mirror held up to the Irish psyche.
Number 1 in the book charts. Thank you very much ❤️ https://t.co/cRHYztim7I
    — Rubber Bandits (@Rubberbandits) November 5, 2019
'Provocative and unsettling, the stories rove through the centuries, from the barren fields of Famine-struck Meath to the chaotic landscape of the near future, where social media has colonised the deepest recesses of the human subconscious. This is a world populated by characters lost and at odds with the demands of contemporary life, for whom the line separating redemption and madness has grown impossibly fine'
The Limerick feen chats to Dermot and Dave about his latest publication, where he explains this concept to one of his bizarre short stories; "it just came into my head one day, a man who wears a tweed suit that rips the fabric of time and he turns into a half an hour".
He also tells us the reason over 60% of his podcast listeners are from outside Ireland and reveals how pre-war Russian royalty spoke with a Limerick accent.
