Death In Entertainment

When you think of true Rock Royalty, there’s one name that comes to mind: Freddie Mercury - the man, the myth, the mustache. As the flamboyant frontman of Queen, he was a shooting star leaping through the sky, defying the laws of gravity and having a ball. But tragically, he would burn out far too soon.

In this special 2 part episode, we’ll be exploring the real life of a Musical Champion and the terrible circumstances that led to his death on a quiet Sunday afternoon in 1991. If you're looking for a feel-good fantasy, go watch the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody.” This podcast may not be your bag. For the rest of you, grab your crown, raise your mic stand and get ready for a Killer time.

In this first chapter, we cover Freddie's rise to the top of the Pops as the King of Queen. The band's worldwide success brought him fame and fortune and everything that goes with it. And by the end of the 1970s, his life revolved around sex, drugs and rock n roll. But unfortunately, there would be a heavy price.

The Golden Bridge is one of the most internationally recognized landmarks of all time, spanning over a mile and a half lengthwise and 746 feet high. It's as majestic as it is gigantic, making a very popular site for tourists the world over.

On a darker note, the bridge is also a magnet for suicide jumpers. In 2004, a filmmaker shot 10,000 hours of footage and managed to capture 23 people who jumped to their deaths. The result is a fascinating and morbid documentary that's hard to watch, yet just as hard to look away from.  Hear the full story, this week on Death in Entertainment!

Few actors are as fun to watch as Philip Seymour Hoffman. He could play anything and go anywhere: Comedy - Drama - Arthouse - Blockbuster. A true actor's actor with rare mass appeal. Over the course of his career, he gave us an amazing array of unforgettable characters. From the vulnerable to the charismatic to the downright disturbed.

Unfortunately, Hoffman’s remarkable life and career would come to an abrupt end on Superbowl Sunday 2014 due to drug intoxication. Few people knew the extent of his inner struggles and, by the end, he was too far gone to be saved. The same intensity that made him a great actor, also fed his demons as an addict.

In this episode, the guys pore over his impressive filmography, from The Big Lebowski to 25th Hour. They're big fans -- but then again, who isn't?  They also discuss the inner turmoil that boiled beneath the surface and detail what went down in his lonely, final days. All that and much, much more (expect some Al Pacino and Truman Capote impressions)!
