In the market report for the w/c Monday 5th June 2023, it is June but it is cold, dull & miserable with those nasty little northerly winds. The market is going to see a slightly later harvest, already a little later than last year.
It’s not all that bad, Andrew enlightens us on a positive correlation to keep an eye out for, to give us hope for the coming wheat crops. Internationally, there are issues with China where they are experiencing some late rain causing floods, impacting quality & destroying crops. In other news, information came out this week that the EU’s import of wheat is up. Wheat is being exported from Poland to America resulting in incredibly cheap prices & Spain is looking to increase their barley imports.
Andrew announces that Dewing Grain has space for any old crop wheat, if you are in need of somewhere to store yours, get in touch with our friendly team today.
In the farmchat, this week we are in for a treat with an unusual kind of episode, a LIVE recording from Andrew with guests on the recent Bressingham Dewing Social Walk.
Enlightened by more history of Andrew, guests are given a tour including the room where Andrew was born. Joined by a superstar guest who travelled over 450 miles just to attend our famous walk. Everyone is after Andrew’s knowledge about not only the industry but an explanation of the current state of wheat prices.
Tune in to this episode where the next Dewing Social Walk is announced. We will be walking around the village of Mundesley, Gimingham & Trunch on Monday 26th June at 2pm. What3words location: “feel.sunbeam.swarm”.

In the market report for the w/c Monday 29th May 2023 it’s nearly June which means time to begin preparing for harvest. Time to clear your stores out, quantify everything and start pushing that button.
In the farmchat, we take a trip down memory lane, understanding Andrew’s dreams of becoming a professional footballer which didn’t quite work out the way he had hoped, so instead he was redirected to trading which he loved, going on to forming Dewing Grain back in 2006. Inspired by his much-loved first role at Dalgety’s in Rackheath, he has been in the trade since 3rd July 1978 - Andrew remembers it like it was yesterday.
Josh moves on to questioning thoughts on technology and whether its progression over the last 30 years has helped or hindered the trading industry. Moving onto debating food standards and attitudes to food safety which the boys believe should be paramount, do you agree?
Andrew gets sentimental whilst sharing old stories from his early days in the business, tune in now you will not want to miss this one!

Market report and bitesize episode for the w/c 22nd May 2023. Andrew heads straight into discussing the misery on top of misery, discussing crop prices in the market for the week as usual. A terrible week for farming prices for those looking to sell, every market is down and all news is bearish until it isn’t.
It appears there is not much farmer participation in the market…maybe a little bit of irony going on here, tune in to find out why. There is a demand for barley since Spain has a drought & the malting barley market has life.
Andrew updates that there is an awfully large amount of wheat moving out of their future stores and next week appears to be moving just as well.
An insight into harvest, which will not be taking place on July 1st this year, as discussed in last week’s episode, but the industry will be able to manage.
This is a reminder to everyone that the Dewing Grain Podcast Walk will be taking place on Friday 26th May 2023 at 11am. What3words location: “scored.quirky.music” – Just for the record we will be expecting a listener all the way from Scotland as we venture down into deepest South Suffolk.

For this week’s guest originally from Wales, moving to East Anglia was quite the change. Willmott discusses how his thriving company has just marked its two-year anniversary; a farming team breaking the mould for land agents. Andrew & Jock talk about the ways of making future farming businesses resilient and that it is all about production & schemes. Willmott aims to keep encouraging the agriculture sector to keep making money through farming and remaining productive.
They go on to discuss the big threat to farming and how it is getting tougher; Jock explains ways of encouraging this generation to carry on their legacy. Andrew interprets how choosing to be a farmer for future generations is more complex because he believes they have more choice.
Andrew just knows that he would win “Grain Trader of the Year” …if only it existed!
Since we can expect to see harvest in the middle of July this year, Jock informs us on the sorts of crops we can expect to be coming our way & Andrew is calling carbon “b******s”.
