Although some parents are still alive, it doesn't mean that they are emotionally or physically available. We grieve what we didn't have because somewhere deep inside there is a yearning to have the mother and father that gives us a sense of security and emotional fulfillment. According to Erik Erikson's psychoanalytic theory, if we don't grow up with security, we don't develop trust in the world and become vulnerable to others who may let us down. From a WTF! or What The Freud! perspective we then are more prone to repeat patterns that replicate this lack of security in current relationships.   Today we Mind Mapped the Tune: "Over You" by Miranda Lambert.

Oftentimes the son is the Golden Child of the family, and the daughter is the scapegoat who bears the traditional burdens. Armenian families typically stay together at all costs. Splitting is a primitive defense mechanism designed to protect. A child will split their world into black and white because it's easier for them to manage. Emotionally unavailable parents can Be The Cause of children becoming emotionally unavailable to themselves and to others. In order to form a healthy human psyche it takes mirroring, attunement and parents that are THERE for their children.   The more "psychological vitamins" we give our children, the stronger their inner core, the more resilient they are and the more they will be capable of forming healthy bonds.   Without this emotional availability, they can have the tendency to shut down and withdraw, get angry, and/or develop symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and what we refer to from a Mind Map perspective as the "hole in the soul."   Reminding everyone to use the PH.D. or Peaceful Healing Dialogue to resolve conflict and get back into reconnecting (Panel 7).   We Shrunk That Tune… “Its My Life”  by No Doubt   Get Dr. Judy's Book, “Be The Cause: Healing Human Disconnect”! Sometimes we have to protect ourselves from our narcissistically injured families and co-workers by drawing boundaries, and going minimal polite contact to NO contact. Sibling rivalry, another form of family disconnect has its cause in parents creating conflict and competition amongst the children. When children are pitted against each other, they can grow up to dislike each other.  With the hurricanes threatening our citizens, please surround yourself with loving supportive people. It's not a good time to connect to people who hurt you, as you need all the emotional support you can get.
